≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Title: Confiscated Items
Character Name: Nikolai

Hello,

In regards to the items that were confiscated from my base on October 10, 2020, I would like to request an itemized list of items taken, and the reason for each item on that list. Upon inspection of first list I received, I was unable to see why some items were deemed unfair for me to keep. I am not disputing any specific items at this point, but I am curious as to the reasoning that was employed.

Thanks in advance,

Doomsday

Your infraction was considered both mech gaming as well as hoarding. A lot of the items taken were taken do to the fact that you didn't apply as a chemist and many of those items you don't -need- because you don't trade and you live alone. Does one man really need 7 bags of pads or tampons? The crafting items were taken because those, much like a lot of the items you got and crafted with them, were made with mech-gaming. If you have proof in the form of screenshots or dates of when you roleplayed out making those items, by all means, send us the information and we'll look into it and return the things like the kiln, smelter, furnace, etc. As for itemized lists, As far as I'm aware, Pika has already sent you screenshots of what was taken.

I received a list, yes. However, I'm not sure why some items were taken. For example, kitty litter, cotton swabs, tissues, toilet paper, and mouthwash. I fully understand the ammo, explosives, crafting items, and tools-- though I may not agree with them. I'm just at a loss for why hygiene products were confiscated. The pads and tampons were gathered simply because I figured they could be traded at some point, being that nobody collects them anyway. Nobody collects any of the hygiene stuff really. I make a point to collect them and clothing because hygiene is an overlooked thing most of the time.

The reason I am asking for a specific, itemized list with reasons is because I can't understand why of all the items I have, you saw a cooler and thought it had to go.

You took fifteen batteries. That is less than what you would find in a sealed package. I understand that I violated the rules, but I wasn't informed or warned until I had items missing from my base already. And I've already made a suggestion to fix the base I built, which to me seems like more of an issue than an engineer collecting batteries and tampons.

I mean what use do you have for them regardless. There are other items like batteries that are not going to be working twelve years into the apocalypse unless you got them from a CPF source and not scavenging. Batteries don't last forever.

And Hoarding was mentioned for a reason. There were some items taken that have very little use if at all if you have other items to put things in. Why do you -need- the cooler? Why do you need cotton swabs or tissues? Because again, as far as I'm aware you don't trade and we're talking about what's been observed in the past, not the potentials of the future.

It is reasonable to collect items that one perceives as having value or use, even if that use is in the future. Would you wait until 5pm to go grocery shopping for dinner? The cotton swabs are for cleaning your ears, the tissues are for sneezing. The cooler was going to be used as a lunchbox or beer transporter at some point. I don't really think I hoarded to the extreme that you seem to be implying that I did.

And if we want to blame the batteries on age, then let's be consistent please. The furnace, kiln, and blast furnace are fair. I agree with you there. But I think that it's unfair to punish me because I collected tampons. I tried on a few occasions to sell clothes and hygiene products on the radio, but nobody answered me, if that's what you're worried about too.

There are a lot of things that I don't type out. If that's something you'd like me to do, I can make sure I do that from here out. But when I'm out scavenging, I think how Niko would think. I might not type out how he sees a box of tissues and thinks it would be good to take, but I'm certainly thinking it.

I just feel like I'm being judged based on an intent I simply didn't have.

I've just been made aware of you actually trading so I apologize on that part. My information was not correct. If no one's buying them then why are you keeping them around? There's no point to it.

As for the cooler, it can be returned if you're actually going to use it but I'm telling you how it seems in the eyes of the admin team. Regardless of intent or not, that's how it seems. Most of those items you just don't need and no one wants to buy them. I had a merchant myself and tried selling Hygiene items. Same thing happened to me; no one would buy them and I got rid of them because they're a waste of space and time.

This is actually the mentality behind hoarding. I'm standing by the decision for everything else. The cooler you can totally get back but nothing else. If you're not using it and if it isn't selling, then there's no point in having it.

I... Can't have hygiene products... That I collected... Because nobody will buy them? Everything else aside, do you understand how nonsensical that sounds? The ammo was too much. The blast furnace was too much. The walls were too much. The cave was too much. But your line in the sand is the tampons, tissues, and cotton swabs? Is this real life?

I'm not making the argument that I should be able to keep it because I'm a merchant. I'm not a merchant. But I'm not gonna throw away useful items simply because you think they're useless.

If you dislike the tissues, you're gonna hate this: I keep utensils and plates in my kitchen too. That's a lot of the fun of the game for me. Having items that you would realistically have and need. And some stuff that you would just want.

It's hoarding. You're not getting it back because it's hoarding, plain and simple. Not to mention, you'd use it too. You can't wash out toilet paper and reuse it. If we see you hoarding items, useless or useful again, further disciplinary action will be taken.

And do not continue to contact admins after they've told you repeatedly to submit a ticket. That's another thing part of the rules and can be considered harassment.
