Kelly is a gentle and friendly woman who doesn't seem to be afraid of standing up for what she believes is right. She will make her thoughts and opinions known, refusing to do anything she finds to be morally wrong or questionable. She is in no way timid or skittish. If anything, Kelly is a bit of a flirt!
Character Motivations
Kelly's only real goal at this point in her life is to keep herself alive. Being almost 50 at the end of the world, you tend to lose hope when it comes to big dreams outside of where you're going to find your next meal. She is motivated by personal gain, doing what she has to in order to survive.
Physical Appearance
Much like her daughter, Kelly isn't a particularly tall woman. She stands at only about 5'0" and has long wavy strawberry blonde hair and beautiful green eyes. Though she is older, her age often gets mistaken for a much younger woman. Kelly has a petite frame that she normally keeps dressed in modest clothing. She does try to keep up with her appearances, however.

Biography
Kelly Ann Adkins was the firstborn of six and lived in a small town in Georgia to two loving parents with ill-placed intentions. Though she never questioned their love for her, she tended to question their sanity. Both her mother and father were heavily addicted to drinking while her mother took a liking to mix alcohol with prescription pills to forget her husband's infidelity.
Years of playing the parent role to not only her younger siblings but those that were supposed to protect her took a toll on her eventually. She started partying from a young age to forget the responsibilities placed on her by her family. Things within the home started to become hectic and at the age of 15, Kelly packed her things and ran away from home.
The first six months she spent on her own was rough, but she made do. She quickly learned just how resourceful she could be and traveled from Georiga to Kentucky to start a new life. Within a few months of arriving, Kelly met a 19-year-old boy by the name of Ben Kolb. Ben was a charming young man who grew up with a wealthy family and never a shred of responsibility.
The two hit it off almost immediately. They spent every waking moment together and it wasn’t long until Kelly found out she was carrying a child at only 16. Despite their circumstances, Ben and Kelly were excited to welcome their daughter into the world. They made so many plans on how their future would look and how they’d raise her. Unfortunately, these plans fell flat after Ben was killed by a drunk driver three months into Kelly’s pregnancy.
Luckily enough for her, Ben’s parents took pity on her situation and allowed her to live with them until she was able to get on her feet. The months passed until she welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world who she named, Heaven Adelaide Adkins.
The life of a young, single mother was unforgiving. She climbed every mountain and jumped every hurdle in order to give her growing child a life that she never had. This included working long nights at the diner just to make ends meet.
The next eighteen years flew by and she watched as her daughter blossomed into a talented young woman. The two were inseparable, even working together at the Diner. Heaven was set to fly to Nashville to start a career that would ensure the future for them both but tragedy would rear its ugly head once more as the world came to a crashing stop.
A day that Kelly will never forget, and she assumed her daughter would never forgive.
As the world fell into chaos, the diner joined along with it. Patrons pushed and screamed trying to get out and get to their families while Kelly and a few others tried their best to keep things afloat. She instructed her daughter to wait in the broom closet until she returned, making it a promise she’d never be able to keep.
As she tried to make her way back to her daughter, she was stopped by the growing horde of the dead that inched toward her and the other group of survivors. Their numbers forced her farther and farther away from her child unable to protect her from the world that was falling apart.
Days turned to weeks to months to years, finding herself unable to return to the place she’d left her child with the hope that she’d return. The look on Heaven’s face as the door closed haunts every move she makes. Almost as if she’s watching her.
Kelly Adkins has spent the last 13 years running from the mistakes of her past and every last thing she regrets. Her journey has been filled to the brim with unimaginable loss, heartache, and pain much like everyone else. She’s found herself staring down the barrel of both sides of a gun more than once, only to come out victorious at any cost. Now, Kelly finds herself in the Barracks hoping to keep running from the past that’s too close to catching up.
