≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Biography
Morgan Del Littleton was born on December 1st, 1976 in Houston, Texas to a housekeeper mother and a father who worked as a law enforcement officer. He put a focus on his education from an early age—at the behest and approval from both his mother and father—and received high marks in every class as a result. He met his lifelong friend, Maci Simmons—a new girl to the town who came from a broken home—in elementary school. It was rare to see the two apart from one another, and she quickly became a common addition to the Littleton household, often coming over for sleep-overs or dinner.

The pair stuck together through middle-school, both of them persistently keeping high-grades and maintaining their friendship. In the middle of his eleventh school-year, Morgan was forced to cope with tragic news after finding out his father was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and had a year to live. It was Maci who helped him through the feeling of impending doom and constant bouts of depression. Morgan went out of his way to spend as much time with his ailing father as he could, going places and doing things with him before he succumbed to the disease.

Morgan and Maci started to see each other in the middle of high-school after numerous failed relationships. It became quickly apparent to the two that they were in-fac in love with one another, and that nobody else that they’d been with ever made them feel the same sense of comfort they felt while together. It was a loving, open, and honest relationship that didn’t have much in the way of turmoil, past your usual suspect arguments. The day that they graduated from high school, they made plans on attending the same college in San Antonio and co-paying on an apartment together.

SAC—San Antonio College—was a place of immense wonder and severe stress for two people finding their way, and place in the world. Morgan signed up for various classes, most of them centering around his decision to follow in his father's footsteps in becoming a law-enforcement officer while Maci started studying in several liberal rights courses, and another in psychology. They became friends with several others, James Santos—a man from who moved to San Antonio from LA to support his pregnant girlfriend—and Rita Monroe—a girl from Lancaster, Kentucky who fled the endless fields of corn for the luxuries and visually overwhelming towers of the city. The four became close throughout several years, attending parties and other activities with one another. After a long, tedious and stressful first semester, Morgan decided that he wanted to be with Maci for the rest of his life. On a pre-arranged trip back to Houston to visit their families, he proposed to her—and she eagerly accepted.

Every piece of the puzzle felt as if it was falling into the correct place. Morgan was now engaged to his best friend, and love of his life. He had supportive friends and was studying to become something he was passionate about. It was all perfect, but nothing ever remains perfect. He received tragic news in the middle of the second semester—in the middle of class, Maci collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given at maximum, five years to live, and a minimum of three. She was forced to drop out of college to pursue different means of treatment and started to live a mostly sedentary lifestyle at their apartment, unable to work. The diagnosis put a strain on the relationship, where Morgan wanted to stay and support her, Maci wanted him to move on and find love before she died. It all fell on deaf ears, he refused to leave her and continued to support her until her last day—accompanying her to numerous treatment centers in search of some hope of saving her, and taking care of her once numerous systems started to go and ultimately at her bedside when she passed away in her third year. In her final moments, she made him promise something to her—she made him promise that he would be one of the good ones because the world had enough bad men, Morgan made the promise and tearfully bid her goodbye.

For the first few weeks, Morgan put on a brave face through her funeral and the days following, but ultimately spiraled down a path of self-destruction in the months following. He was unable to cope with the idea of a life without her and embraced alcoholism and various recreational drugs as a method to numb the pain. Morgan was a mean drunk, very violent, short-fused and increasingly belligerent, often getting into fights with other patrons at the bar. James and Rita attempted to remain supportive through all of this, but ultimately it became too much for the young couple. James confronted him and made a last-ditch effort to pull his friend out of the rut he was in, but it led to the pair exchanging blows and both of them being arrested. He decided against pressing charges against Morgan but warned him against ever speaking to him again until he sorted himself out.

It became apparent to him—for the first time in his life—he was completely alone. It stewed in the back of his head for days, and a fatal set of thoughts began to bore an inescapable hole in his head. He would be better off dead, and he considered several different methods of suicide ranging from hurling himself into oncoming traffic or swallowing pills. He made three different attempts of suicide, but ultimately unsuccessful—backing out at the last minute. One night, while he was walking home a church caught his attention and in an act of desperation, he turned to God for guidance. In the next few months, he bonded with the priest—Robert Buchanan—and managed to go through a program to get clean. Morgan grew attached to the idea of helping people through spiritual means and shifted his studies to reflect as such, practicing philosophy in the hopes of becoming an ordained priest himself. Once he graduated from college, he submitted himself to become a formal candidate for priesthood and would eventually attend one of the many seminaries from the Episcopal church. Morgan impulsively ignores warnings from several friends, asking him to consider his options before accepting the tremendous task of becoming a priest, and is ordained at the age of twenty-five. He is assigned to a small town called Plymouth in the boonies of Texas and moves.

Over the next eighteen years, he serves as the priest of the town, becoming disillusioned with his religion through numerous controversies involving allegations of child abuse from the church and numerous confessions from locals ranging from cheating husbands, thievery, murder and recovering child predators looking for another chance in life. He kept a list of all of these confessions, documenting his thoughts in private to cope with the tremendous feeling of guilt and confusion on whether or not he made the correct choice by becoming a priest.

At the brink of the outbreak, Morgan decided to remain at his church in anticipation that many locals would flock to it for refuge from the horrors outside. In those first few hours, two people arrived, Emma Reid, a young woman that he watched grow up and become a teacher for the elementary school nearby, the epitome of innocence and an old man. The three of them hid inside for the first week, surviving on each other's company. By the start of the second week, Morgan had decided that he would leave the church to search for survivors, Emma decided to join him out of the discomfort of staying at the church with an elderly man serving as the only means of defense. A few nights later, the pair encountered an old member of the church—Jerry Rosefield—a man who had confessed as guilty to assault, robbery and being in the possession of child pornography. By his cloth, he had no choice but to forgive him, but a lingering sense of disgust remained below. Morgan allowed his guard to lower, putting faith into his religion and a member of his flock and invited him to join them at the fire. He conversed with the man and learned of the sickly people that have been attacking others, eventually agreeing to join Jerry who was also searching for survivors.

The next few days felt like a haze, blurring together and going by unusually quick for Morgan. They consisted of walking from place to place and avoiding the small clusters of sickly people. By the end of the third night, both Morgan and Jerry managed to track down a campsite about three hours outside of town. Jerry asked for both Emma and Morgan to hold back at the camp while he made sure they were good people and not someone who could pose a threat to them.

Morgan grew suspicious of Jerry and followed him to the camp, hearing a gunshot in the distance midway there. When he arrived, he discovered a dead body and a member of his flock in the process of attempting to rape a young girl. In a moment of rage, he betrays his cloth and shot Jerry in the back of the head. They manage to talk the girl into coming along with them, and they return to the church.
