Raised in the southern United States, Patrick developed a strong sense of community. When the virus hit this caused a severe amount of emotional trauma as his beliefs about helping others and a general belief in the goodness of others were severely tested. He continues to look for other like-minded people but has gained a severe aversion to contact with most. For those he trusts though, his purpose is to help and support, even at a cost to self.

Biography
After a peaceful childhood in a two-parent home, Patrick felt constrained by his traditionalist rural upbringing. Taking the outdoor skills he had learned as a youth, although doubting their usefulness in the new life he set out to make his own way in the city.
Finding the city very different than the isolated upbringing he nonetheless forged ahead, finding employment as a handyman/construction worker. Taking small jobs and working hard he soon secured lodging. Years passed. Caught up in the busy metropolitan life he forgot many of the skills passed to him and picked up bad habits such as a taste for tobacco and liquor.
When the virus hit he believed it was a passing annoyance and not a serious issue. As things worsened he withdrew from his very small social circle and tried to pass the time away from others until the strife had passed.
As he did not have a television and had stockpiled a fair amount of food he stayed indoors taking time off for a few weeks reading fiction novels. When he finally emerged to see what had become of the world he was aghast, only driven from his refuge by the walking dead.
He returned to his parent's home, only to find that raiders had killed his family and looted their belongings. Far from the safe refuge he was expecting, he was only met with grief and loss.
After performing a burial he turned inwards, only rising to take care of necessities and to provide for his survival. Years passed. As they passed the loneliness began to creep in. Extreme isolation began to seed questions about the rest of humanity. What had become of it? Fears of the baser instincts of man were overcome by longings for community, brotherhood and not in a small part, desire to start a family of his own. Once again, Patrick set out for the city, to find what his second foray into the world would uncover.
