James is a family man at heart. He has always been a bit of a hopeless romantic, but when he met his wife he knew she was the one, and knew he would do anything to protect and provide for her. His goals were to progress his career so he could provide a home and life for his wife and young daughter. He had no intention of getting a mansion, but just wanted to live comfortable.
Character Motivations
James' motivation is driven by family, his only goal is to find his wife and daughter and protect them. He can feel that his family is still alive. He just needs to decide to either venture out and try and find them or to wait for them to return. Either way none of this matters if he doesn't survive.

6'1", white male, brown hair. He has a beard and dark blue/green eyes.

Biography
James O'Connells past life was eventful, contrary to his childhood life which was certainly not. Besides growing up with a single mother and graduating from college with a major in Music, his life was pretty normal. His mother was a native of Cork, Ireland, and James' father from Indiana. A war veteran that was killed in battle prior to James' birth. Every year his mother would pass down one heirloom from his father for James' birthday, so James' would never forget him. Everything from cufflinks when he was young, to a 9mm pistol when he graduated college. His mother died a year after his graduation. Always supportive of James and his dreams, her will ended with the words "follow your dreams, sweetheart. I love you." The money she passed on helped him secure a loan from the bank to open his own record label.
Once an up-and-coming CEO of a record label based out of northern California , bad investments and powerful adversaries eventually led him to sell and move to KT. This was a difficult transition for a mid 20's music major with history of a failed business. He would work dead-end jobs and finally found a place to settle after about a year of searching at a small time country music record label. This is where he met his girlfriend and eventual wife and mother of his daughter. "Mary O'Connell.. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it." James' mom said to him after meeting her for the first time. That's when he knew for a fact that this was the one. They married a year- to the day- later. Their daughters name is Adelaide O'Connell, who had the brightest pearl skin and fluorescent red hair, which reminded James of his mother more than either of the two of them.
After 6 years of working at this label, he had grown a reputation and was even offered the opportunity to open up his own branch in Muldraugh, which he did. At this time his daughter was 6 and about to start first grade. Right after opening up the store, the first case of the virus in Muldraugh. The spread happened so fast and before he knew it his former neighbors were beating at his windows. His wife and daughter ran outside to the car and started it up, as James was grabbing what he could out of the kitchen. When he got out he saw the infected beating at the windows of the car and knew there was no chance to get to them. He starts screaming, telling his family to leave without him, drawing the infected to him. His wife and daughter leave and yell back that they will come back for him. He fights his way back inside and barricades the doors and windows. He had plenty of non-perishables, but only a kitchen knife that was half broken, and a 9mm pistol that he hasn't shot since his mother first gave it to him.
He could still hear the snarls from outside, even 3 days later. Water was still running, but he knew it wouldn't last forever, he did his best to plan accordingly, knowing his wife would eventually return to save him. 3 weeks in, his food was about gone, and no sign of his wife. He had managed to wait off the zombies, but knew he had to try and survive for when his wife does return. He ventures out, for the first time in weeks, to try and find food and materials to protect his home and show that he was still alive for when she does return.
The first 5 years became routine. He never carried much, just enough for a few days. Would never settle down in fear of his family being somewhere safe already, venturing out of KT.
He found a home to settle in, heavily barricaded and had a stock of everything he needed. He had lived there for 8 years. Still carrying his knife and pistol that he's never had to shoot. One day when he was about to go to sleep he heard a crash down the road, and ran out to see a car crashed into a tree and a horde closing in. It was dark, but he could tell there was a shape of a women. He knew it wasn't smart. He knew the chances were low. But what if that was Mary out searching for him. James pulls out his pistol and shoots one shot in the air. He looks as the horde turns to him, turns around and sees more stragglers coming out of the woodline. He proceeds to shout and shoots 3 more shots in the air and runs back into the house. He grabs his 3 boxes of pistol ammo and shoots as many of the infected as he could, as they break through his barricades and follow him up the stairs. He finally goes to his handmade safe room, once a laundry room with one window, he had crafted a metal fence and door as a last line of defence. He was up till dawn, watching as the infected broke through his door and started beating on his fence. Luckily there was sheets in the dryer still from who knows how long ago, just enough to craft a rope long enough to get out the window safely. He sneaks over to the car to see that women he saw, recently infected. Must have began the transformation while driving. It's not Mary. He begins to break down. His last shrivel of hope was gone. As he falls to his knees in tears, ready to let the infected take him, he sees a decrepit sticker from his old record label. This is enough to drive him to find out what happened to his family.
It takes over a year to walk back to KT. James isn't as fit as he used to be. A life of "leisure" living in a house has made him weaker than he used to be. Still following his old rule of traveling light, and searching what he can, but food isn't as plentiful as it used to be. In a department store on the way he finds some seeds and a few cans of food, enough to last a week or so, crossing the border into KT. He sees an axe stuck in a door and finds a saw still on the shelf. He decides to grab a couple of other tools and get on his way.
Knowing his daughter, if she's alive, is now in her 20's, and wife is only a few years younger than him. He knows he has to find them, he doesn't want his kid to be without a father like he was. He had no heirlooms to pass on, only the memory of a 6 year old and her mother.
