≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

What sort of authorization do you want?
Other

Is there something not listed that you'd like to be authorized for?
Alrighty, so this is what I'm workin' with--and a couple of questions I'll PM over later on. I know this is kind of bulky--but ty a bunch for reading.

And ahead of time:
Looking back at the other thread---->Racter joke might've come off bad. After connecting some of the monster histories, the Pennsylvania flock's history, The Deadlands, and current Monroe happenings? I've created this, like, objective and self-quest for my character. And I'm pretty stoked, because I'm hoping this might result in my character getting to serve the Van Hellsing'esque role I've been pursuing. But! I'm not a Madlib lore bot created by Mindgate, lol--and I didn't mean to imply that at all, even though that Wiki joke was about that. I know it's not lore to push on anyone regarding past NPCs / characters.

The main reason for sayin' the ahead of time?

I'm probably going to end up pushing for regards to old NPCs and/or current characters. But this is all my own head-canonical vibe on what John would do, what I definitely would have fun doing, and which I feel might be fun for others. I don't really have any knowledge about how last lore ended, where it took place, what enemies / bosses there were, how the group escaped, what happened to the mall, etc. This has tbh been another reason for not re-introducing Api--because it'd be tough to get her grounded while relying on lore I either wasn't there for or really know about. So just know that I am of pure mind, soul, and intent. Gods be praised--for this is pretty legit, having a mystery to figure out with some background excitement of having engaged Part 1's earlier stuff.

But!
Again, this is just to make sure that it's known that the direction I'd like to take this is 100 percent done with current lore intent. I do have the feeling that The Red Man might've been a major antagonist, and that there are additional ties, here, to Part I, but it just makes sense for my character to pursue related goals based upon pre-existing Monroe stuff

And, of course, this isn't intended to be a request for a player-specific event. I'll try to keep my own direction, in-game, sort of omitted--just so it can also be fun / intriguing for any PCs played by admin. At the same time, the couple of questions below will probably end up painting that picture in and of itself.
Here it goes:
--------------------------

1) The Red Man: If there were any way of potentially 'tracking' this horror's location, as it appears he's relocated from the Kentucky area, would it be realistic that one might've heard stories of his effects, on the road? Such as small villages vanishing, wanderers going insane, and such?

2) The Red Man: He's associated with the Dogmen, so I'm pretty stoked as it is. What'abouts is the general rumor, if any exists, giving a timeframe between their appearance and his own? Or--how 'closely tied' are they to one another? Is it more of a 'the insects come out before the storm / the birds flee before the storm' kind of deal? Such as correlation, but not causation? Or is it more like the Wolfmen and The Man In Red simply share some environmental, like, biology that overlaps in their location choices. Or--are they directly of the same creature kind of thing. That's some pretty direct info questioning ofc. Come to think of it, also kind of don't want to know lol-- love how mysterious this thing is. More asking for, like, presumed associations to sit by a campfire and say, like, "This one time...something-something on the road...something-something dissapearance, kind of thing.

3) The Red Man: Of the stories where entire groups of people have vanished: Is it normally a la' a ghostly rapid vanish similar to Roanoke? Or are there any tales of, like, one person goes missing. Then another one. And then 'ohshit' everyone's gone kind of thing? Sounds dope either way--but, at this point, unless there's a direct indicator of the Red Man absolutely not being capable of being in the area, I feel that (going back on my word, here) John would definitely consider this as a doom possibility.

4) The Monroe Crow: This is more of a general lore question, but'taaah. . . .When someone is cast out of Monroe, does this mean the county? Or more of the established refugee living area? Kind of embarassing to say, but I don't really know how Monroe and the CPF station engage one another, either. I like not knowing whether it's possible that this dude is being held at the CPF fortification, as that's sort of fun to figure out--but I feel this dude, being of Crow, is currently what remains of either Rook's flock and/or creature-knowledgable people in the area.

5) The Men and Women with Wings: I'll message ya later about them in general about how they interact with The Mother--but, if one were to go about extrapolating info about missing Crows, is there any knowledge about how these Wings interact with the Crows they watch over? I know Crows are sort of an ideal, per dat earlier knowledge gained, but moreso looking for patterns.

6) Pacifism and Monstrophists: I like the idea that Monstrophism sort of denotes learning the skills and methodologies of both beast-hunters and Banishers alike. Where I'm going with this is, like. . .How likely would it be for a person to avoid any and all practice of beast-hunting to 'fortify' their effectiveness as a Banisher? Because some of these creatures do have psychological impacts, I feel that restricting one's own knowledge of violence towards them could actually be a great tactic and/or long-term benefit. Makes them more purist-pacifist, for one, but also could ward against some psychological attacks, mayhaps. Annnd yeah, this is more of a skill request. But is this a possible thing? Sacrificing know-how on how to kill for 'defense' in some areas. If not--totally understanding.

7) I like the idea of John having delved a little deeper into The Deadlands' green fogs, mostly to learn--but also to sort of get in deeper touch with any previous darkness in 'his heart', 'his soul', or 'his mind' after the whole Erie incident went down--after he'd killed Spline and/or everything fell apart. How, roundabouts, deep into The Deadlands could one feasibly go before anything life-threatening and/or likely of causing long-term damage became a significant possibility?

8) Meditation and Rhythm Wards: I've been having John practice frigid meditations and mental 'rhythm wards' to sort of bolster his mind against any aftereffects of the Dogmen. Mostly to fortify his sound sleep, but also to sort of 'divide' and 'water down' those lingering damages. The question: Would it be possible for a person to utilize things like one of those Stephen King 'He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts' rhymes in this case? Utilizing something 'easy to mentally chant' so they could still converse while muddling their consciousness enough to relay Dogmen information without potentially psych-infecting someone if either the Dogmen and/or the Red Man were potentially akin to a mental virus spore which might transfer. (--->hasn't asked around town for insights / rumors because doesn't want to pass Dogmen psych-spores into a mass population, lol.)

(took out the #9 - had a question about the CPF Outpost, but I'd mixed up the locations)
