≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Title: The atmosphere at Monroe

Heya Mind,

Got a lore related question aimed at the npcs in Monroe.

Assuming one pays attention to gossip, reads into normal conversation and listens to what is being whispered - what do the regular citizens, the guards and the traders within and outside Monroe say and feel about Crystal Chens leadership, about Preston Hand and about the continued presence of the Millers, at the current time? Do they approve, or is there any sort of dissident among those still in and connected with Monroe?

Thanks ?

A lot of faces Terry might have recognized are long gone. Those that remain are either old-timers too disgruntled to leave or new-faces. Most of the old-timers are a mixed group; some are whispering in the dark of how Monroe has lost its way, while some praise the new leadership. A couple of the faces Terry might have recognized (Nathan Coleman, an old guard, and active A-NPC) seem content with the leadership due to having children, and the thought of them having peace is enough to bite their tongues. It's very mixed and very tense -- most of the old "family outings" and friendly speak at the bar are gone and exchanged with mistrustful looks.

As for the new individuals in town from the Miller Family. They're quiet -- reserved, not antagonizing anyone in town. Beth Miller, the lieutenant in-charge of the outpost in town has been seen making efforts to aid members of the town, along with her core inner-circle comprised of (Dr. Harlan Parati and Andre.) Not a lot of trouble has come from them - yet.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response!

I'll lift the veil on Terry's intentions - Terry doesn't have any faith in Crystal's leadership. She's seen what the Millers are (the creepy ritual at Miller HQ being the final nail in the coffin), and thus her sole reason for returning to Monroe is to help protect the people there against whatever threat the Millers and Crystal's leadership might pose on them.

But Terry also knows that she's very much alone right now, and she's not pretending to be a one-woman army. So she'll do this by keeping her eyes and ears open, perhaps some light sabotage if the opportunity arises (it would have to be low risk, as she prioritizes staying alive to continue helping) and, most importantly, by biding her time. She doesn't believe the current status quo will last, and she's determined to be there to help drag people out of the fire when all hell breaks loose, figuratively or literally. Whether it be by the Miller's doing something, by a leadership decision gone awry, by the CPF deciding to raze the town, etc.

Terry very much wants to see Monroe have new leadership without Brighton influences, and she wants to see the Millers out of Monroe. Without being foolhardy, she'll go pretty far if it means achieving this goal. For now, she's keeping completely quiet about her intentions and keeping her eyes open for potential allies. It's my hope that Terry will be able to have a real impact on Monroe's hopeful return to being Miller-free, and in forming whatever comes after.

I was gonna join the Monroe event with her, but apparently I misread and thought it was today. Oh well.
