Title: Kaari's Mutation and Snakes
Character Name: Kaari
Documentation for Kaari's infected status.
Back in late October, Kaari unknowingly accepted a mark from the man in red while witnessing some freaky visions. Back in April, she accepted an offer from Uhu'ri, the Leech Mother, to 'cleanse' her of the man in red's mark. Kaari allowed some sort of parasite from the Leech Mother to wriggle into her bloodstream from an open puncture on her arm. Tests after that point showed that she still had high concentrations of Oculorubrus virus in her blood, with repeated testing showing a linear increase. As of early May, she had developed large blisters on her back, and she feels increasingly comfortable immersed in water. By late May, the blisters had 'popped' and two serpents emerged to the horror of everyone except for herself. As of June, Kaari's blood has turned blue but she has not discovered what that might mean for her.
The snakes: Long, black, serpentine with spines, three rows of teeth, and eyes that literally glow in the dark. They have a neurotoxin in their fangs that can paralyze or even kill based on dosage. Their DNA shares enough similarity with Kaari's own to be considered familial. They have a skeletal structure and organs that seem compressible such that they can withdraw into the empty space within Kaari's thoracic cavity. They have enough physical strength to lift a full-grown man (though Kaari must also deal with the added weight, so that's of limited use) and tear a man's heart right out of his chest. They share some limited empathic and neurological link with their host, allowing for limited mental commands, as well as sharing nutrients such that Kaari feels hungry or diabetic when the snakes have not been fed.
Sarẽ-i: The larger of the two, ostensibly female, with glowing yellow eyes. She is more aggressive and territorial, lashing out at anything that gets too close or is deemed a threat. She will often wrap herself around Kaari's torso as a physical barrier.
Kara'taai: The smaller of the two, ostensibly male, with glowing red eyes. He is inquisitive, curious, and more likely to inspect the surroundings. Shows less hostility towards others, and has been trying to get into Runty's good graces.
I don't know what the snakes are capable of in a rolling-combat situation, I'm assuming Kaari's character sheet will be updated at some point. I will add more here as Mindgate confirms more of Kaari's status.
