Biography
Duncan Walsh was born March 2nd, 1992, to a middle class family of 4, as the youngest child. At around the age of 7, his mental deficiencies became much too clear and shameful to his parents, (which he does not even remember the names of) and he was sent to live with and take care of his grandparents in another state, Meljean and Harry, along with his uncle, Aaron.
They lived in pretty much in the middle of the forest, with his uncle working as a forester nearby. Luckily, although his grandparents were not very capable of taking care of him, his uncle was kind, and decided to take care of him and apprentice him. This was perhaps the happiest time of duncans life, enough to make up for his neglect in his childhood. His uncle seemed to be able to solve any problems, his grandparents were very easy to talk to despite his disability, and he loved living in almost complete nature.
This continued for 9 more years, until he was 16, and according to his uncle, "A man". Despite having learned much from his uncle, he still failed to teach him to read, and most other basic skills besides his job, and how to survive off the land. And shortly after this, his uncle left him to care for his grandparents. And simultaneously, his grandparents became much more infirm and needed more care. Duncan slowly took over his uncle's job in the nearby woods, and not being able to think of any other options, simply stayed and waited for his uncle to come back.
For Duncan, time was now very blurry. He had been living in the woods for many years with only his grandparents for company, and occasionally talking to hikers and co-workers, despite coming off as very strange. But one day, people stopped showing up to the park. Despite this, he stayed to maintain the park off of inertia, and he wasn't able to understand the situation from the few sources of news he had. Weeks later, his grandparents attacked him. Duncan defended himself in a blind frenzy, and didn't realize what had happened until they had already stopped moving.
After everything, Duncan stayed in the park, and grew used to killing the few monsters that wandered into the park. And despite everything still, he tried to maintain the park to a bare minimum, hunting animals to manage unrestricted populations, and making sure the park was navigable. He also spent his time foraging and hunting just to maintain his diet. This took up most of his free time, and made sure he didn't have too much time think about the depressing facts of the situation.
Even more years later, rather then monsters arriving to the park, people did. These people were a group of scavengers from the Coalition, trying their luck in the nearby area. Unfortunately, at this point, Duncan was hardly able to expect that anything but monsters would show up to the park, and attacked them anyways. This did not end well for him, and he ended up being taken captive by them and brought back to the Coalition. Duncan was a fish out of water, being almost unable to communicate with people after all this time, but he was luckily able to ingratiate himself with a few people. He started off just doing hard labor, but after seeing his giant physique and readiness to take orders, one of his few friends who worked with him coerced him into joining the military with him, who had hoped that he would be safer with Duncan protecting him while being able to have a job with higher benefits.
His friend did not live very long. Duncan seemed to be a much better fit in the military then he was in the city, able to take orders with ease and being intimidating enough to not be bullied. just like that, he lived the next decade of his life in the coalition military. He was known to have once been left behind to act as a distraction for the rest of the squad to evacuate, and was presumed dead after going missing. A month later, he reappeared, and didn't even seem to hold any resentment to anyone. He was recommended for promotion, but was unable to pass the officers test.
Duncan spent the next 10 years of his life in the military like this.
