Yes
Has this character appeared in a previous lore?
No
Age
21
Personality
Maya is good at keeping a calm head: she’s the kind of person that you would want to be around in a crisis. However, she is not great at keeping a balanced workload, often taking on more work than she can handle, meaning that she is often worrying and stressing about something. Maya doesn’t like feeling like she is out of her depth, so prefers to plan things ahead of time - even if she does tend to overestimate herself.
Being from the world of law, Maya knows how to speak to people properly: she’s mindful of how her words will impact those she is speaking to and prefers to be looked on favourably. With friends, she likes being able to let her hair down and say what she really thinks about people, but again, she is from the world of law and so knows not to get too trusting of newbies. Ultimately, she knows that she has to put herself first if she wants to get anywhere in life.
Physical Appearance
Maya looks younger than her actual age, standing at 5"5 with smooth, fair skin and deep brown eyes. Though much of her hair is dyed blonde, by the roots it is beginning to revert to its natural colour of a light brown. She is usually found in some kind of jumper, jeans and gym shoes, with her large backpack equipped and her tied back.

Biography
Maya is the child of a Turkish oil tycoon Mehmet Huseyin and American housewife Audrey Anderson, granting her a very comfortable upbringing. Her happiest memories are the days that she would spend with her friends playing in the back garden while their mothers would all watch on, enjoying the glorious Texan sunshine. Being based in Houston meant that Maya’s father could be home a lot more than if they were based anywhere else, so she has strong memories of both parents being there as she grew up. An only child, she was the apple of her father’s eye, but had to endure the pressure of academic performance from him, too. She was raised to aim high in life and achieve as much as she could: the careers she was allowed to dream for were limited as such.
It was lucky for Maya that she had the gift of academic talent, meaning that she could make her parents proud just by doing what she was good at: studying. Good grades were rewarded with days out, more spending money and trips to the shooting range, while bad ones meant that she'd be grounded. After graduating from high school, the family took a month-long break in Turkey, giving Maya some time to enjoy some peace and quiet before college life would take over completely. While she always felt under pressure to live up to expectations, Maya used this summer as a way of escaping reality for a little while. She appreciated the time she had been given to spend with her father’s side of the family in Turkey, learning some tasty Turkish dishes and more about her family. She became more proud of her father’s roots and his success story than she ever had been. This is part of what motivated her to get through college, starting her law degree at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law as soon as she landed back in the States.
College was such a fantastic experience for Maya. Being a law student, she was finally around people who truly cared about doing well in their academics – they had no choice if they wanted to get somewhere. She made friends that she thought would last a lifetime, spending most nights in study groups over frat and sorority parties. This doesn’t go to say that she didn’t party, because she did, but that could never be her priority if she wanted to do well.
At the time of humanity’s reckoning, Maya was working as an intern paralegal in Fort Holly, staying in student accommodation in town. For the first week she was with her two housemates, a couple of students, but they never came back after leaving to go and find some more food. What happened to her housemates she will never know, but so far she has survived by keeping on the low in the neighbourhood, evading the dead where possible. With no car, she is essentially paralysed in that she cannot leave the town, unless somebody manages to find her to help evacuate her.
