≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Yes

Has this character appeared in a previous lore?
No

Age
20

Personality
Khan Aldron is typically seen as a naive, somewhat clueless boy desperately trying to his peers and to himself that he is capable of being not only a confident individual, but also a strong, sturdy man. He always strives to out-do those around him and show his ability in any field, however he typically fails at most of what he does. Khan's morals are simplistic, he cares for those who are family to him, and will sometimes go too far to protect those he cares about. Khan always wanted wanted one thing in his life, and that was to be famous. Before the end of the world, he planned to maybe one day be an actor, or a singer, or an online personality, whatever worked first.

Khan is a boy stuck walking in men's shoes. In a world where everyone is forced to mature or die, Khan always found that adaptation hard. Khan mostly acts on his impulse, typically failing to see the larger picture at hand. Khan can be described as childish, naive, self-motivated, and in some regards, dumb. On the other hand, Khan can be incredibly caring, considerate, and honest.

Physical Appearance
Khan stands at 5'10 and has a fairly typical build for a male his size. He's somewhat lean, but not exceptionally fit. Khan has brown hair with a scruffy, somewhat unkempt beard, and his hair is long and partially curly. Khan has hazel eyes and squarish, somewhat short eyebrows. He wears a dark red jacket with dark blue jeans and converse shoes. Khan stands with a level of confidence, and seems to present himself with such confidence.

In-Character Profession
No profession, Khan worked a few odd-jobs, but mostly relied on petty crime to sustain himself, mostly thievery.

Would you like your character to start with any items?
A knife
I'm also rather new to the game, so any items that could help with sneaking/thieving would be appreciated. I'd like to possibly discuss this with an admin more in depth if I am approved.

Are there any characters you plan to group with from the start?

Would you like to pre-claim a building?

Biography
Khan was born in Chicago, Illinois, to teenage parents, both fourteen. It was very clear to Khan's parents that it would be impossible for them to raise him in the conditions the were in, thus, Khan was placed into an orphanage home. Khan would bounce from home to home for the entirety of his young life. The experience made him stronger, but it left a gaping hole in his personality and heart that could only be filled by the one thing Khan could never have: family. Perhaps it was this that made Khan so quick to call others family, and made him prone to be taken advantage of.

At thirteen years old, Khan was moved to Texas, where he would find the most hostile environment for any young teenager, the James Banner Home for Children in Houston. This household forced Khan to stay out on the streets for as long as possible, as any cold alleyway would have a warmer embrace for him than the deathly grips of the JBHC. Khan would soon befriend a small group of troublemakers, who would pickpocket, steal, and rob to stay alive.

Eventually, the law would catch up with Khan. Khan and his friends decided that the best choice to make money fast would be to rob a nearby gas station. Armed and masked, the plan had gone perfectly, until the police arrived. All of the robbers were able to flee the scene and were home free, except for Khan. Khan's jeans were caught in barb wire as he attempted to jump a fence, stringing him up for the police to put cuffs on him. Khan would spend the next two years in a juvenile detention center.

Released on his 18th birthday, Khan was still up to no good. He would spend the next two years working odd jobs, random listings of work just to make end's meet. Khan was a good for nothing, uneducated, unmotivated scumbag, until the end of the world happened.

Now, Khan is a survivor, a fighter, and most importantly, Khan is alive. Using stealth and his "silver tongue" to get out of most situations, Khan survives by the doing the only thing he's ever been good at -- adapting at all cost.

Heya, Scout4515! I've reviewed your application and it's accepted!

As far as I know, there aren't any items that would actually aid in sneaking. I wouldn't mind giving you a boost to your stats, though! It would be realistic for your character. You're also free to request any other items you feel Khan would have.

If you have any other questions, feel free to respond and ask. Thanks!
