Biography
Nolan was born to a working class family in Columbus, New Mexico. His father was an emotionally abusive man and Nolan hates him deeply to this day. A carpenter by trade, his father was often involved in criminal activity and struggled to hold down a steady day job. Nolan considered him a lazy man, always looking for an easy way out even where one didn’t exist. His mother, much to Nolan’s chagrin, was deeply devoted to him.
Growing up in a border town, Nolan learned Spanish from a young age. He did rather poorly in school, but excelled on his high school’s wrestling team. In fact, he did so well he was recruited by the University of New Mexico and was offered a scholarship. The first in his family to go to college, he eagerly accepted the opportunity. Nolan spent most of his time in college partying with the other kids on his team, chasing girls, dirt biking, and shooting in his buddy’s backyard. He majored in Communications because, as he’d say, it was easy to bullshit your way through.
After graduation, Nolan had no idea what he wanted to do. Given his communications degree, he managed to find work in Public Relations for a pharmaceutical firm. He despised it. Every word out of his mouth was bullshit and he constantly had to resist the urge to scream at the media, the company, and the public alike. But he was making more money than he could’ve ever hoped to make and he was fairly good at the bullshitting. All the same, every day Nolan woke up feeling like he was dying a little inside. The only thing that kept him going was dirt biking and shooting on the weekends to give him a bit of excitement in his life.
One Saturday night, Nolan got a bit too drunk and decided he wanted to kill himself. He had achieved success and he was absolutely miserable. So without making a fuss, he went home from the bar, got his pistol, and turned off the safety. Right as he was about to put it to his head, his phone rang. The man answered, and it was a Marshal from the United States Marshals Service on the line. He was informed that his father had killed two men and had escaped police custody and that they wanted to question him to see where he had gone. Nolan put the gun back in his dresser, happy to help put his dad in prison. He told the Marshals he’d meet with them first thing the next morning.
Nolan, still plastered from the booze, tried to sleep. It was to no avail, he couldn’t catch a wink. Still buzzed, he began trying to work out where his dad could’ve gone. Overcome with a strange sense of determination, he grabbed his gun and went to track down his old man in the middle of the night. He checked multiple different places before finally finding him sleeping on the couch of one of his friends. Nolan held his dad at gunpoint and told him to wake up. His father did, and began to reach for his own gun. Nolan told him to stop, and his dad began to beg him to let him go, telling him he had a deal with a coyote to get him across the border and that he’d never have to see him again. Nolan did no such thing, forcibly putting his dad in the back of the car and driving him to the meeting he had scheduled with the Marshals that morning.
They were quite surprised, and Nolan was surprised at how good he felt. He had no guilt at turning in his dad and in fact found the whole experience of hunting a fugitive to border on fun. A week later, he applied for a job with the Marshals Service. He was a bit less qualified than the other applicants, but his job with public relations gave him the ability to sell himself quite well. Having turned in his own father assuaged the fears that his relationship to a criminal would endanger his integrity as a Marshal and his ability to speak fluent Spanish earned him some more points in his favor. After a thorough hiring process, he was invited to Glynco to go through training. He excelled there, finding it to be quite fun and enjoying learning about the work. While court security bored him to death, everything about hunting fugitives was exciting to him.
After completing training he was sent to a field office in Denver. Nolan enjoyed the work immensely at first, although in time as he began to settle in it started to simply feel like a job again. All the same, he was much happier in this line of work than his other. Just recently, he got a lead on a fugitive he’d been tracking for 8 months, with a source saying he was hiding out in England. Nolan put in a request to travel for duty and it was granted. Given he was traveling on duty and put in the proper paperwork, he’s allowed to carry his firearm on the plane. After having gone through special security, he’s boarded his government funded economy seat with his badge, gun, and cuffs and began combing through his old files on the fugitive, eager to hit the ground and hopefully bring the bad guy back to the States.
