Values honor, courage and hard work. Dislikes slackers and weak minded. Will help in dangerous situations if he can.

Fred has PTSD. Staying busy and his mind on tasks helps with this.
Physical Appearance
Slight "dad bod" but clearly still has muscles under a thin layer of fat. He generally keeps a trimmed beard and has multiple tattoos, primarily on his arms. He always wears 3 memorial bracelets on his right hand. (Like this - https://www.memorialbracelets.com/images/meta/kia.jpg) though they are faded and worn and only on really close inspection would you be able to make out what they say.

Biography
Fred was deployed to Iraq right near the start of the conflict. Like a patriot, he joined right after 9-11. He was angry but didnt want to kill anyone so he joined as a 91B, a wheeled mechanic. He stayed where it was relatively safe but during this time frame, nowhere was really safe. Unfortunatly, this created a bit of complacency.
There is no way they could have known that their base would be attacked and overrun. Fred was in a vehicle working on another broken seat because the infantry cant help but break everything they touch. Next thing he knew, he was in a lot of pain and waking up to the sound of shooting. A barrage or rockets hit his base and a couple of them hit the motor pool. One struck the vehicle directly after a hit before it took out the roof. He couldnt remember any of that though and he had a splitting headache. He had a TBI for sure and a hell of a cut on his head but he had to get out and fight.
He crawled out of the wrecked vehicle and joined the fight. It would be nice to say thats all a distant memory but he has daily reminders still. The nightmares still wake him up at night. He served 3 more years without another deployment. They didnt want to med board him but he was clearly non-deplyable after that last deployment when he went to the shooting range and he had "an episode."
He had gone to a trade school over his remaining 3 years on the side after work. He didnt specialize in anything but kept changing his major to teach him what he wanted to know. He hated how he couldnt just take the classes he wanted and thats it. He hated how the system was geared against that.
After he got out though, he jumped around doing odd jobs for various tradesmen and eventually landed a job as a corporate maintenance man. He fixed the office building systems, factory systems that he could.... he did it all. He was damn good at his job because even if he didnt have what he needed to fix something, he got the job done. Staying busy also helped with the PTSD. I kept his mind occupied. He didnt have much else to keep him occupied. Single, borderline alcoholic at times, small 1 bedroom apartment... He was content though in his life for the time being.
Would you like your character to start with any items?
Tools. Hammer, screwdriver, saw, crowbar, some form of combat knife, etc.
Small Propane torch like shown in reply comment.
Small amount of basic supplies like nails, etc.
Books/Magazines needed for special trades jobs a tradesman would logically know. Nothing (advanced)
Large Duffle bag (to serve as the tool bag) (no pockets)
and if not asking for too much, small boost in trademan crafting stats. Nothing special but like, a level for each tradesman type crafting stat. NO combat stats. (since by story he SHOULD be good at combat but PTSD counters that IC and hes going to be played as useless in a fight... if/when one happens it will be seen)
