Maya is stubborn and to the point, believing in what she says and saying what she believes in. The business-minded woman in her knows that if she doesn’t speak up, she will go unheard. Being brought up in China, she was used to feeling rebellious in a community with stricter social expectations on women. She both loathes and loves being under someone else’s thumb and is extremely competitive. Alongside the independent and strong-willed woman that she lives and breathes being, there is a part of he that just wants to be reassured and told that she is doing a good job. Nevertheless, Maya is an ambitious and passionate woman that seeks a better life for herself, being determined in achieving her goals and fortunes.

Maya is a fortune-hunter that has always been on the path for a better life for herself. What lights the fire under her belly is the idea of finding the good fortunes that she knows she deserves: she just can’t settle.
Physical Appearance
Maya is a 5”5 Chinese Hui woman with a fair, white complexion and a thick head of silky, deep brown hair that reaches over her shoulders. She is small in demure, weighing in at 110 pounds, but is at least fit. Her facial features are sharp and angular, but her nose being slightly more rounded and with wide nostrils makes it one of her standout features. She rarely seems to smile.

Biography
Born Zhang Meifen, Maya grew up in a middle-class family in the capital of Guangxi: the city of Nanning. Being the first-born child, as a daughter she was at first a disappointment for her parents upon the discovery of her sex, who so desperately wanted a son who could carry on the family legacy and look after them in their old age. Nevertheless, Maya’s parents harboured so much love for their daughter, who they initially raised to fill in the role that a sole son would have. Her father, who worked away in Hong Kong for business, would always encourage his daughter to enjoy sports, often spending hours upon hours outside with her playing soccer when he had a weekend free from work. Maya was a talented soccer player, but it was in the classroom where her excellence came through. While she excelled in sports, she loved the rules and excitement of arithmetic and languages, finding her prime in the English language classroom. She would ask her father to bring her back the latest American DVDs from Hong Kong and would love having the edge of understanding English over her friends when they would watch them together.
Eventually, Maya’s parents wish for a son came true and her younger brother joined the family, but after raising a rather tom boyish daughter, having a son wasn’t all it let out to be. Her brother, while studious and at least academically competent, lacked the natural spark of his older sister. It surprised no one when Maya announced her intention to study International Business at the University of Hong Kong. To no one’s surprise, she adapted well to life away from home, on her year abroad studying in the United States, where she fell in love with life overseas. Or, rather, the American dream.
After graduating in Hong Kong, Maya used her father’s connections in the city to remain in Hong Kong, working for Warner Music Hong Kong’s marketing offices. Needless to say, hard work and dedication saw her climb up the ranks as promotions came her way, before she ultimately left Warner Hong Kong for the big fish in the United States. She had more aspirations than just staying in China: New York was waiting. Sure, it meant kissing goodbye to regular family visits and the safety net of her friends, but it was the jump that she had always wanted to make. Coming in as a senior in the marketing department, Maya found herself coaxing fresh talent and nurturing them into being marketable potential superstars.
So, what was she doing in Kentucky? It’s as simple as this: she was on a country retreat with a colleague from Warner, staying with his family in Louisville. Escaping the hustle and bustle of New York was a nice treat for Maya, but little did she know that she would never return to the big apple.
