Personality
Bowie endeavors to be brave and kindhearted—but the truth is that she's fucking terrified all the time, and generally has no idea what she's doing. She hopes that she'd be willing to risk her own life for a good cause, but she has no idea if she could muster the courage. Overall, she's not handling the apocalypse terribly well, finding herself snippy and prone to despair as things head forever downhill.
Character Motivations
Feeling listless and depressed, Bowie has very few goals beyond "try not to die horribly." Without her father, she feels helpless and adrift, and exceedingly vulnerable. Whether she knows it or not, Bowie craves a parental figure who can help her figure out what the fuck she's supposed to do next.
Physical Appearance
5'6" and ~130 pounds, Bowie is what you would call "petite." She doesn't have much muscle mass, but she's a decent runner. Her skin is pale, her hair is bleached blonde and her eyes are a pale shade of blue. These days, she has a sort of listless, weary mien, and a distant look in her eyes.

Biography
Getting sick is hard. Growing up sick is harder.
Bowie's mom—an old school granola hippy who loved Woodstock and Ziggy Stardust—was born with CVID, which meant that her immune system was fucked from the word go. She got by, though, struggling through a dozen colds a year and the constant dread of contracting pneumonia and dying young. When sick was your normal, you just sort of put up with it.
Bowie's parents were adamant that it was love at first sight, but Bowie's grandma told her that they went to the same school and absolutely hated each other. She was never entirely sure why they told a lie about their own perfect fairy tale romance, but she couldn't think of a reason to call them out on it, so she just sort of let it slide.
They traveled the world together before they "settled down," visiting a bunch of countries in South America and western Europe before moving back home to... Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Where there was, as Bowie had always put it, a deficit of culture. Hygiene, too. She hated rednecks. Nonetheless, Bowie's youth was about as perfect as you could hope: Mom stayed at home, dad was a math teacher, everybody was happy and healthy.
Well. Not everybody. Bowie's mom was born sick, after all—and, unfortunately, she would die sick too. When Bowie was 14. Ninth grade, needless to say, was an absolute wash, but they let her go on to 10th grade anyway—because who the fuck fails a kid who just lost her mom? 10th grade was easier and harder. Easier because she thought less about her dead mom and harder because she had her dad for math.
11th and 12th grade sort of swam by. Bowie was an underachiever in most arenas, but she kicked ass in English Lit and Creative Writing. It made sense, then, to pursue a Liberal Arts degree when she graduated—except that public school teachers really don't make any fucking money. Well, that's not true—they do make just enough money to disqualify you from any significant financial aid.
Bowie got a retail job. It was sort of a crappy job, like most retail jobs are, but she made enough money to accrue a pretty significant savings while she lived at home with her dad. When she as 19, Bowie realized she mostly liked girls, even if she thought some boys were sort of okay, and started calling herself gay. Dad didn't care. No, that's not true—he cared too much. He even put a rainbow decal on his Buick's bumper. How fucking embarrassing. Thanks dad.
When she turned 20, Bowie dropped down to part-time hours and enrolled in college. She got some core credits and her Associate's out of the way at ECTC because it was cheap, then she transferred to UK and got an apartment in Lexington. Bowie did better in college than she had done in high school, but that was mostly because she got to pick what classes she was taking. So that was nice.
Anyway, that's about when the world ended. Such a tragedy. She was so close to a Bachelor's degree. When things got really bad—or it looked like they were going to, anyway—UK sent everybody home, and Bowie went back to her childhood bedroom in Elizabethtown. She stayed at home with her dad for the most part, puttering around on the internet or watching movies or playing video games.
Then dad got sick. Sort of like mom, sort of not, because dad had always been healthy, but mom was born sick. So when dad got sick, it was a surprise. It was even more surprising when he didn't get better. But the biggest surprise of all was, of course, when he died—no, wait, it was what came after. It was when he came back to fucking life. Or was it when she had to load the pistol dad kept in a tiny safe in the closet in his room, then shoot him in the face with it? You know, so that he didn't eat her alive.
It was all surprising. And it was all the worst. She couldn't bring herself to mourn. She couldn't even cry—because if she cried, that meant he was gone. Both of them were. And she couldn't bring them back. So she locked the bedroom door and cranked the AC and wore jackets indoors so that her dad wouldn't rot any faster, and she kept watching movies and puttering around on the internet and then one day she ran out of food.
But that was fine. Because the National Guard were evacuating people anyway. She took her dad's gun and her backpack, a couple changes of clothes and what supplies they had left, and she abandoned the home she grew up in without even saying goodbye to her dad. Her dad's corpse. Whatever.
