≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Personality
Addy can be considered a "good man in a storm". She is someone that can be considered trustworthy and will have your back through just about anything. Even the end of the world. Adelaide is a natural-born leader and has always strived to do what she believed was the right thing. As much as the dead walking scares her, she tries to put on a brave face for those around her and will do her best to keep the people she loves safe.

Character Motivations
Adelaide's main goal is to figure out how to make it back home to West Point in order to reunite with her family. She wants to help as many civilians as possible while she does so. Addy takes the safety of those around her very seriously, especially if they are young women and children.

Physical Appearance
Adelaide is 5'5" and 140lbs. She has medium length dark brown hair that she usually keeps pinned back and green eyes. Addy can typically be found in some sort of flannel, blue jeans, and sneakers with no makeup. Though she's an attractive woman, she doesn't typically put her looks first especially with the current state of the world.

Biography
Adelaide West was born and raised in West Point, Kentucky. She is the eldest daughter out of five children and has always seemed to take a motherly role in her sibling's lives to help her parents. Her family owns the West Farm on the outskirts of West Point where their family has spent generations raising animals and growing crops. Far too many of her childhood memories had something to do with farm work. She and her older brother were tasked with making sure chores were done before heading off to school each morning. Despite the hard work, Addy loved her simple life. Her parents were good to her, she always had a rough over her head and food in her belly, and most of all her family was safe.

At the age of seventeen, things changed in the West house. She'd always known her brother had been involved with some shady characters but never expected it to go as wrong as it did. The day the police called to tell her family that her big brother was killed was the day Addy began to see the world differently. Months went by and there was still no lead on who took her brother from her. The longer she waited, the angrier she became. Luckily, she took her anger out in a different way than most. She began working toward becoming a police officer herself so that no one would have to go through the pain that the event had caused her.

Soon after graduation, Addy was accepted into the University of Louisville. College went by quickly for her. She had her fair share of parties, bad boyfriends, and friendships but they never strayed her away from her goal. She went from college graduate to police cadet as quickly as she could. She proved herself in each and every test they threw at her. From physical to mental checks to pressure tests, Addy was able to show just how serious she was about her dreams.

It wasn't long before she graduated from the police academy and found her place at the Louisville Metro Police Department. She received a warm welcome from the other officers and fit in rather quickly. People always talked about how much they hated their jobs but that was never the case for Adelaide. She thrived here. Every time she was able to help a new person she felt as if she was doing her brother's memory justice.

When the Corto Virus hit, things changed quickly. Adelaide's seemingly normal life was thrown into chaos as she began working exhausting hours and was placed in the front lines in an attempt to calm the masses. As the dead began to reanimate, Addy couldn't help but worry about her family in West Point. She knew the best she could do was protect the people in Louisville until she was able to make it back home. She was soon given the assignment to evacuate the University of Louisville hospital along with several other officers, among them Richard Sullivan.

Things at the hospital went from bad to worse in a matter of hours. Those quarantined had turned into the very monsters that roamed the streets and the officers were overrun quickly. The sounds of screams and cries for help were the only things able to drown out the sounds of flesh being torn from the bodies of the people she had come to know during her time as an officer.

Addy seemed to be one of the lucky ones. Maybe the *only* lucky one. She was able to escape out of a back stairwell. Through panic and death, she slipped through the hellscape surrounding the hospital until she found what she believed to be an untouched bookstore for her to hide in. She soon realized she wasn't alone. A voice called out from behind the counter asking if she was human. It was a voice she recognized. Edward Riemann. The partner of Richard Sullivan. She turned the corner with her gun at the ready. She didn't prepare for what she'd see next.

Edward wasn't alone. Beside him sat what Adelaide believed to be a little girl no more than four years old. She was crying and shaking with a large bite mark on the inside of her arm. Officer Riemann revealed that he'd also been bitten. That was when he asked a favor of Adelaide that would live to haunt her for the rest of her life. He asked for her to end both of their lives before they were able to turn into whatever was out there. She didn't have long to make her choice but ultimately decided that she would want the same for herself. The first bullet was for the frightened young girl who she had turn away and to think of her parents. The second for a man she had grown to trust.

She knew the sound would draw the dead to her location and made her escape. Unable to give the two the proper burials that they deserved. All she could think to do was run. She ran until she was stopped by a familiar and panicked face. It was here that she found Richard Sullivan and how it came to be that she would end up at the Harcrow Office Complex pick-up point.
