≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Blood Type

Personality
Joe's morals are somewhat lacking, theft and scams are his bread and butter but he's no killer. Always down to have some fun. Though he can have temper management issues on occasion when he feels insulted or 'dissed' and definitely not beyond holding grudges which can hold him back in the long run. He's the biggest goal used to be very materialistic, just... The opposite of the way he grew up, wishing to be rich, respected, and be part of the 'elites' of society.

Character Motivations
Joe's driven by his experiences from the past, the way he grew up, and the people he idolized. Which were mostly criminals, con artists, and gangsters. They all had something in common, many came from a poor background like him but rose up to be respected and wealthy the only way 'Southsiders' know-how. Scam and steal. Not much changed, still wishing to become part of the 'elite' through whatever way he can.

Physical Appearance
Joe stands at around 176 cm and about 85 kilograms, slightly overweight for his height. Black of hair which often is slicked back, shaven face and seems to be in decent enough shape.

Biography
Joseph was born into a fairly typical low-income family, in other words poor. His parents spent most of their time at work Paul his father was an electrician and his mother worked as a maid in a hotel. They'd pick up as many shifts as they could to make payments and that often left Joe alone which drove him to be outside, his friends and him used to go around the neighborhood causing some minor mischief as boys do. Often getting in trouble at school. At a certain point, Joe learned to pick the dial locks on the lockers, he and his friends would empty out whatever was of worth. Trying to find out who brought money and left it in the locker. Didn't take too long to graduate to pin locks, not that they got to put it to use. Shortly after all hell broke loose. Now, a burglary was closer to the 'discovery' of items then stealing them. Though he and his friends ended up separated when it happened, they were not close to each other and turned to different directions along with whomever they were with. As they traveled they found several wanderers speak of the Coalition, Brighton, and Monroe creating a safe haven for people. Most of the people with Joe were content living in the houses they found along the way, plenty of traders went past as they traveled they had to fear bandits but usually even they would go away after taking some things off them. Some went out to find better place among one of those new civilizations and now, now Joe plans to do the same to hopefully gain some form of fame, respect, and a seat among the people 'running the show'.

Hey, I've only recetly saw some of the discord's announcements (yep lol) I was wondering if it's still possible to request some skills? If so I'd probably say hunting/skinning/butchering combo at basic levels one would have for self sustenance. Will be rpd off as learned from and with the group mentioned in the background bit before wandering off to find the various communities.

Yup! Mechanically, those skills would be trapping and cooking. Did you have specific levels in mind? I can get them to you whenever you're online.

Edit: I caught you online so I gave you your skills. I included some blade skills as well since it makes sense for Joseph. If you need anything else just let me know!

I'm not quite sure which would allow what, or at what level. My PZ game knowledge is practically non-existent, especially with all the mods. I don't mind if it's only at a basic level that would allow just a lil better success with things and I'll try to figure it out from there.
I did have another little question I noticed skill books take like ages. That's intentional I assume right or am I going at it wrong?

I gave you cooking 5 and trapping 6. That should be enough to allow you to hunt and skin animals through Hydrocraft. I don't know the specifics myself, though, since it's very complicated.

Since we're using 12 hour days, it takes longer to read books. I tend to just go AFK or tab out and let my character read one. It works especially well when no one else or only a few people are online so that I'm still getting something done.

Hello, more questions cuz apparently I like to bug you.
I was planning to eventually get the character going back to the criminal/theft/thuggery ways.
1. If I wish to steal from a faction/settlement/house which is claimed. As long as they're online I'm allowed to do it and take the state of the place fully ic? (unlocked doors, windows so on)
2. If I am part of the fac/settlement I assume there needs to be another person right?
3. Monroe's market stalls, would it be allowed to commit theft on those premises or there are assumed npcs all over certain places rendering them "safe"?

It's all good!!

1. Yes! As long as the player who owns the claim is online, it's fair game. Just make sure to RP all of your actions and not just rob them mechanically. For claims owned by the entire faction, I'd say at least one faction member must be online for you to rob them.

This actually brought to my attention that the rules say you can't steal from personal claims within a faction, but that completely contradicts the main rule on robbery. I should have known that at the time, considering I'm the one who wrote them. We changed it so that they are fair game now as long as the player is online.

2. What do you mean by this? Do you mean if you plan to steal from a faction or settlement that you're a member of? Because in that case, I'd say you don't need another member online. You'd be a member, so technically it wouldn't count as offline robbery.

3. I want to say yes. I'm going to discuss it with the other admins, though, so that we can reach a consensus on that. I'll have to get back to you with a solid answer.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

For No.2, yes pretty much. For instance, I stay at Monroe while not exactly a member(At least I don't think, never got anything official.) If I'd be considered one of them but.. Yeah answered it pretty much. I should've brought this one before too with the No. 3 but uhh stalls are they technically personal and mean that I'm gonna need the player claiming them online or...

If you aren't officially a member then I'd say have at least one member online. Just to make it fair.

For the stalls that have been claimed by players, treat them like any other personal player claim. You can't steal from them if they aren't online. Most people remove the items from the stalls when they log off, anyway.

Alright, we've reached a consensus. There are no NPCs and you are allowed to steal from the market. So, pretty much what I said before.
