≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Personality
Though Marcie is still a young and somewhat skeptical new member of the Crows, she feels that the group's overall ideals line up with what she's looking in this world. Marcie's overall of aloof and quiet disposition and tends to stay away from large communities. Her memories of life before the apoc are vague. Having grown up with them, she doesn't find herself that afraid of the Red Eyes by principle and using them as a method for getting from one place to another.

Marcie has "visions of the future" semi-regularly, though the veracity of these visions isn't always certain. Often they're of small, insignificant events in her day to day life, but rarely these visions do pertain to more important events. The vividness and clarity of such visions can be increased through use of certain drugs.

Character Motivations
Although Oracle seeks general freedom from excessive rules and laws, she still desires to be a part of some sort of group that she can call upon for support in times of need. Still, she's used to being alone for long spans of time. She wishes to understand the visions she has and whether or not she is meant for something larger.

Physical Appearance
A bit on the shorter side, the young woman watches curiously from the shadows, the light flickering on and off and illuminating her. She stands at around 5'2 and a weight of 126 lbs. Atop of her head sits an old, tarnished green cap, with an eagle clearly sharpied black, flecks of the original silver poking forth. A pair of goggles hangs on the brim, though they seem more cosmetic than for actual use.

The hat obscures her visage, though light blue eyes peer towards you, almost white bangs dangling in front of her hair with further flashes of platinum coating the sides of her face down to the nape of her neck. A couple faint scars lie on her left cheek.

A heavily used hide leather coat hangs from her shoulders, a variety of bits and bobs hanging off the top of her jacket, most notably a leather shoulder pad carefully attached to the right shoulder. Her forearms are wrapped in long gloves and padding, with elbow guards on both arms. Beneath her coat lies a white tank top and an old US Army pistol belt. She wears khaki trousers beneath that, capped off with black boots.

Biography
Oracle can't remember much from before the Red Eyes Outbreak occurred. She was born Marcie McFarlane in Eyota, Minnesota on May 23rd 2007. She vaguely recalls having nice enough parents. Only eight when the Outbreak swiftly swept through the nation, Marcie was left with her aunt and uncle; she remembers being told that they were working with the government and had work to do; that was the last she heard of them.

Over the course of her first year into the apocalypse, Marcie was carefully cared for by her aunt, uncle, and two cousins. For the first month she stayed on their property in the country, a small house a couple dozen miles from Eyota. It wasn't long until the first incident occurred when her cousin, Bobby was playing in the field when he was assailed by an infected person hidden in the brush. Unable to kill their son, Marcie's aunt and uncle instead locked him in his room before packing things up and leaving the small home.

Life was a blur for Marcie over the next few years. Her Uncle Jim died first, shot when he tried to negotiate with some bandits that had converted a bridge to a toll road. Her Aunt Rose was next to go, holding the door closed and buying precious seconds for her daughter and niece to escape. A couple years passed, but so too did Diana pass, dying of hypothermia in the cold of winter. These incidents and more taught Marcie to stay away from not only population centers, but other humans as well, Red Eye or not. She traveled eastward, staying relatively close to the Great Lakes; fish were plentiful now that commercial fishing had fallen apart.

More years passed; Marcie passed the ruins of Chicago, Toledo, and Detrouit; she sailed across the Erie with the help of a crusty old former fisherman; for a time she stayed with a small group in Toronto, all the while honing her survival skills.

Venturing back south, she was trying to climb up the ruins of a small building to see if she could get a better view of her surroundings, only to fall after where she placed her foot gave way. She woke up some time later in the care of an older man wearing a hodgepodge of old leather and kit. She had suffered a concussion, a broken arm, and probably some internal injuries. Still, the man cared for her; he was something called a "Crow", a loose coalition of different people that followed the tenets of the "Mother Crow" a mysterious woman. Although Marcie didn't take away much from his ramblings, after her near death experience, she began reconsidering her stance on living alone. After all, having someone to take care of you if you got hurt was nice...just have to be smart about who you trust...

After recovering, the man went on his way, leaving some food and a couple other small gifts; a small pendant with the Raven's sigil in it, an old, worn green military cap with an eagle and small breath insignia on it, both repainted black. "It suits you," she had been told. And with that he left.

Since then, she's continued her travels east along the Great Lakes, moving into New York.
