≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Personality
Personality: In a world of harboring destruction, death, and uncertainty, the girl has succumbed to adapt, and improvise in the gloom of the current world she’d reside within. It has assisted in the shape, and mold of her as a person, and her personality; Eagerness in the help, and assistance of others, she’d rush to help those in need; Making brash decisions in an immediate swiftness. The compulsive attitude lingers in her core as she’d choose the selecting approach of a scenario, decision, or aid of a problem in a singular heart-beat. It sinks to the courage she’d additionally hold to have such bravery in tackling tough situations. The confidence to establish a back-bone, a head-strong rush towards the problem, or scenario at hand. If someone were to be injured in the midst of their flee from the apocalyptic creatures, she’d be persistent in the aid of them. A major negative in her stubbornness to refuse the leaving of such behind. She is stubborn to always aid. The girl’s moods vary on the daily basis, however for Chanelle? It is a daily struggle for her. Her moodiness is a regular occurrence for the girl, in her venomous spout of hurled insults, or blunt statements. Picking apart a person piece-by-piece just cause the world is crushing her shoulders with their beating stones. The world isn’t fair to her; Despite being repetitive in her mood, the girl can be genuine in her kindness, however the key word is ‘sometimes’. Her enthusiasm, and interest for a majority of things is sour. A candy that is bitter-sweet to the taste, disregarding her from sharing an interest to partake in such. Emotionless in her mop, the failure to connect the lining dots of her emotions, with the sorrow of feelings towards stamps in the occurring world surrounding her. Her emotions are secluded, buckled away in their hidden slumber, whilst she’d be unaware of them. Her sense of emotion has gone numb through the growth of the girl. Her appearance of a prized beauty, she’d bask in the cherishing radiance of knowing such; The vain of her flaunted appearance, considered as being perfect to herself, she’d fly it around like a flag. Often dribbling her eyes to the mirror, cracked, and broken, yet the availability of some sight, she’d just admire herself. Despite being so vain in her appearance, she’d be extremely selfless; Her heart profound in the helping of others, and ensuring their safety, and moods being raised to the highest. Clashing in her traits overly, yet mending their bouncing similarity. Her decisions are brash, yet the outcome is certained for a thought out process, carried through to a final completion. Intelligent in the ponder of her decisions, evaluating their every-step, and outcome. Perhaps it could be quite pessimistic in assuming the worst in some situations. Disciplined in her mannerism, and as an individual through the growth as a girl in the destruction, and darkness of the world; The knowing of what she should do, instead of what she wants to do. Reserved from the rebellious attitude. Charismatic, and extremely bubbly in her speech when she is enclosed in the confinement of a conversation with someone, displaying her wits, and self-awareness of others, bouncing the conversation back-and-forth. Humorous as well, or at least she tries to embrace the cheesiness of her jokes. Likewise, it could be viewed as her over-flirtatious attitude, the humble pour of compliments, and flirts to gain the attraction of someone, whether it be a genuine interest, or someone to sink her claws within, and manipulate; Manipulation would be a poisonous trait for the girl, the claw of her switching beliefs for the person of target, ensuring their belief of something, twisting, and turning their loyalty, to aid herself in receiving information, or having something. Yet in the cases of being a genuine interest, the girl is romantic; A candle-lit dinner, or a night in the room, with blasting romance songs on the cassette player are something she’d extremely value, with someone who is everything in her eyes. A young girl, gullible with the confusion between love, and infatuation. Her mentality is strong, a hardened shell to shield herself from the darkness of the world, and people, the strength of herself from breaking; At least in front of the prying eyes of others. Reclusive, the failure to have a want in being around others; The enjoyment in being secluded, to ponder on her own thoughts, or to just enjoy the quietness. However, stuck in a group with a duo of females, she’d become more involved, despite the low interest.

Character Motivations
Motivations: Separation from her moodiness comes first, with the dissociating of herself from the vile individual in that manner of her mood, and instead to connect with someone, to have an actual connection, pure in its’ meaning; Perhaps a romantic partner. Contradicting in her inclusion of connecting with someone, she’d desire to prolong in her reclusive, yet within a selective community that does tick the boxes for her, and to live every day through her judgement of others that bask in the walls of said community. A primary drive of the woman is the enforcement or ability to use her powers to gain the sportsmanship of others, either through actions of being resourceful or manipulation. She wants “power”, and she understands how to get her power, especially through a male’s perspective. Cutting the ties with her emotionless self, to show empathy, to have a sense of feeling; Rather the numbness of herself to such depressive situations. To associate with her emotions again, to be a raw, and vulnerable person in the fear for their life. To escape the claws of death in each occurrence, and to have a life in the books; A fairytale in the white-picket fence, passing away in her old age. Grey at the hair, wrinkles to ruin her beauty. A drive of her’s is to hear children laughing, again. For peace to be restored, for humanity to be restored, and for herself to be restored piece-by-piece. Secretly, the woman desires psychiatric assistance. To be evaluated, and analyzed; To learn about the dips of her moods, to be more aware of the cause of such, and her mentality; Bemused by the idea of mental illness, let alone having a clue about such, it’d be a desire to learn more about such. The growing love for the duo in sharing of their group by the name of the ‘The Rats’, a flame in match being struck in the prolonging want to have an inclusion in a community. To have that sense of security; To have friends; To be normal.

Physical Appearance
Physical Appearance: Youthful in her appearance, the girl's visuals bestow their radiance through her paleness. Assumed in her late-teens, to early twenties, the girl carries her age with disregard. Chanelle has the type of lean body that anybody would praise themselves about. Her weight is around 125 pounds, contributing to her athletic figure. She is Caucasian. Chanelle has a pair of striking crystal blue eyes and walnut lady-like styled hair which goes past her shoulders. Occasionally her hair would be straight, with dead-ends. The unbrushed tendrils spout their mess. Sometimes, it could even be up in a ponytail. Messiness perceives the eye through her locks, untouched by an ounce of water in grease. Perhaps due to the conditions in which she'd dwell within. She tower her demeanor at 5’6", shadowing beneath many others in their elongated heights, yet it'd be keen in words of; 'Good things come in small packages'. By the facial complexion, the definition prevails. A heaviness to the chisel of her jawline, and her cheekbones, malnourished in their appearance. Heaviness in the bags beneath her eyes, drooping down in their darken tint indicating the lack of slumber, and an insomnia. Her eyebrows would be evidently bushy in their portrayal, unkept in a sense. Their arch flaunts above her beading blues, the consistency of a glare assigned to any one person; Perhaps she'd be judging, perhaps she'd just be eyeing down. All cautiously in fact.

Biography
An unwanted birth, shunned; partially harmed from a prior slip. Chanelle’s birth on August, the 25th to a pair of immigrant youth. Without legal documentation of her birth, being left unattended on the Church of Cold Spring, New York's front porch; difficulty accessing legal records of her birth or to be legitimately seen as an American Citizen was viewed as a ‘difficult probability’ for future circumstances.’ The sudden introduction to the church instilled an imprint of safety in the back of the woman’s mind-causing her to subconsciously gain attachment to the brief encounter before being swayed away to the hospital to maintain her vitals in check from the prior glacial night. The premature newborn remained in the hospice for under a month, consistently being perceived by nurses, specifically women; whom came to her aid with each cry for hunger, diaper change, and especially her pleas for company and mothering. As her health progressed and vitals maintained, Chanelle was accustomed into an orphanage in Kingston, New York. Eventually as the time came, Chanelle was in, and out of the orphanage, finding comfort in foster homes, with strangers who had not a single care for her. And so, without a care in the world, two individuals whom aren’t to be named, crazed in the religious antics, and incredibly standard to racism, or homophobia within their household, two things of which Chanelle from a young age grew to distinctly fight for. The duo brought their newly-fostered daughter of Chanelle home. The duo were a couple who had failed to conceive, and instead wished for the matter of fostering, followed by adoption. With hard thought, and strict abatement, they planned on finally adopting Chanelle, and welcoming her in their home with wide arms. Chanelle didn’t really mentally connect with the parents due to their high amount of ignorance, however she did share in the solace of faith, and prayer, the Italian household separated a cultural divide for the young woman’s blossoming mind amongst her peers. Throughout the majority of her childhood, she was profound in the church, either contributing in altar service, or just attending the service. The basic activities of the church was something that Chanelle found a high amount of enjoyment in - It was questionable whether it was due to the forcing of the faith by her religious adoptive parents, or if she really did share a connection with her higher power. The female was sheltered in her upbringing, shielded from the neglect, and poverty of the world, with a cherishing from either her adoptive parents, or the church, and the community she found herself in. In her education in her childhood, she excelled in a variety of aspects, achieving the high marks in Numeracy, English Literature at such a young age. She failed to connect with others her age, perhaps out of fear of rejection, or mistreatment, with her days being filled in a solemn state, alone without company, away from the outer world. The only solace that she evidently find was in her prayers, or listening to music.

The suddenness of the apocalyptic setting, she’d display the signs of her fear, and sorrow for the events. The transition from normality in their life, and now replaced with the risen numbers of death throughout the population. The canines sunk to the depth of individual’s skins, the tear of humanity apart in front of the very eyes of the young girl, the violence spreading throughout the streets, and states. The constant droning of firing gun-shots in the distance, or outside; The flee of the family to reside in the church, with the neighboring families. Boarded windows in their strength of nails, the shut of the door to isolate from the rest of the world, the church was their located home for now, and for the future. The limitation of resources resorted to various hunting groups in search for food, and supplies. Some returning, others being met with the fate of death. Solitude in their prayers, belief in the punishment from the heavens above, the only person with awareness of common sense was Chanelle; The refusal of her prayers, and to be lead to believe such foolery. Reclusion from the crowded families, and even her own, she’d keep to herself. Safety in the church, untouched by humanity, or the evil of the outside. They had a sense of normality, with the continuation of life as it was. Teaching the children the prayers, their english, and their numeracy. The basics, in the belief that life will turn back to the way it was.

In her younger years, as they approached at a fast pace, Chanelle found herself in the beginning of her ‘rebellious phase’, doing things that went against her faith, and even against the morals that she strictly grew to accept from her religious foster parents. In private, Chanelle began to explore her sexuality, exploring the company of both men, and women, tasting a bite of the cherry as some would say. All within the community, behind closed doors. She began to date a random girl, to whom she shared a romantic interest, and connection with. The first real point of the exploration of her sexuality, after experimenting with the mixture of genders. With the snip of the scissors, Chanelle rocked her new look; An shoulder length bob. Eventually, the enjoyment of this life had to reach an end, with her foster parents discovering the truth of what their daughter was doing. Their disgust was highlighted as they shunned their daughter in the community. Forcing her away, with the guidance of the priest, however he’d prevail. A dominance in his words as he’d keep her safety, yet away from her family. The forcing out of a family that had cherished, and sheltered her for years, it was in this time that the abandonment led to Chanelle to encounter the mental illness of depression, with her thoughts swayed to one thought, and one solemn thought only. This thought was the contemplation of suicide. Depression wasn’t just something that passed, it was something that resided with Chanelle, and followed her in a trail through the route that she’d have to endure.

An instigation of thought of the dead from the woman was ‘unholy’, and against the church-the church, however, viewed the undead as individuals that were infected with illness. Without hesitation, Chanelle assumed otherwise, and disagreed. Disregarding the church’s views, Chanelle came into her own, and possessed her own ethics-desiring to ignore the church’s statements of alikeness to the undead, and to refuse to attend weekly meetings to commend the undead, which gradually led to church-goers timely demise. After the plague spread, the woman became numb, and intolerant of others-emotionless, and mundane. Dissociated and detached from reality after several emotional, and depressive episodes, the woman disregarded care for others and even her own interests. In a way, Chanelle could relate to the undead, as she, herself, often viewed her emotional state as “zombified”. The realisation of God’s falsehood, and the fact that he, in fact, did not arrive to rescue the church or even herself-left a bitter, and sour taste in Chanelle’s mouth for months to come, and even years. A despise grew within the woman towards religious individuals-due to repressed thoughts, and experience. As destruction occurred, Chanelle, disregarded all the lies force-fed to her, such as the importance of family or the importance of the church; instead, abandoning both throughout the apocalyptic environment, and residing on her own, in an abandoned house, as the prior owner’s bodies cremated against the floorboards. She chose to have her own independence-to reside in her own guilt and sorrow-and even, her own depression. This, however, transpired with consequences. Whilst residing in solitude, Chanelle, witnessed individuals observing her surroundings, and without forging a particular “scene”-On a singular faithful night, Chanelle was coaxed into submission after being awakened from her slumber, otherwise meeting the result of death. She’d be enslaved, and regarded as another slave for a “community”, or as she would regard it; “camp”. Abuse; Torment; Mistreatment; All the girl would be aware of throughout the entirety of her time dwelling in the ‘slavery camp’. Constantly bruised by the body, malnourished from food, and kept from water. A ticking clock, the pass of time without a sense of reality, or awareness. A disconnection from reality in itself; Forgetful of an age, of a year, of anything. Her brain hard-wired to the traumatized scenario that she’d be caught within. Upon the notice of Adelaide bravery, and courageous act, the following of her in the flee, the hand-in-hand knot as they’d marvel in the leaving of such a community. In the same cell together, it was the only reason for such a miracle to take place. A stranger to herself, Chanelle took the chance of befriending Adelaide, and welcoming her in open arms. The eventual bump into Maria, the remain of their group as they’d evade from the captivity of prior. Refraining from being caught in that ideal of a life. Branding themselves as ‘The Rats’ to each community they’d saunter within. Everything in life vanished in the blink of an eye; Chanelle lost the awareness of who she is as a person, and who to trust in this world. She doesn’t know what to do, or what there is to do. Captivity is all she has known through her life, even in the religious family.
