Personality
Weaned on a steady diet of spaghetti westerns, Jon York is a caricature of a southern gentleman. He's polite, courteous, thoughtful and kind. He's calm to a fault—even in the midst of life or death situations—and he has a wry sense of humor that can often put a grin on even the most stoic mien. He's at once self-sacrificing and pragmatic, willing to put himself in harm's way to save others, but always cautious.
An aspect of Jon that few people see, however, is his ferociousness. He's a tried and tested warrior, forged on the field of battle, and in the heat of the moment he's more ruthless killer than man. That said, he weighs every action he takes, ensuring that he's always making the best decision he can with the information he's given. He's a good and loyal friend, and a strong ally to have at your side.
Physical Appearance
Jon is 6'1" and ~185 pounds, tall and lean, and strong despite his lanky frame. His hair is cut short and neat, considering he hasn't been off duty for that long, but he's starting to grow stubble—given the restricted hygiene options of the last few weeks. His hair is black, though it's showing signs of greying at the temples, and his eyes are a cool blue. He's undeniably handsome, in the vein of Gregory Peck or a young Clint Eastwood.

Biography
Jon was born in Lubbock, TX, to a career welder father and a school teacher mother. Though he considered both of his parents' careers as possibilities, he opted to enlist in the Army first at the age of 18, in 1989. He graduated basic as a Healthcare Specialist in 1990 and was immediately attached to a mixed infantry/cavalry armored battalion as a combat medic.
Jon spent the majority of '90 to '95 deployed to Iraq and Kuwait, where he saw a moderate amount of combat. Nothing terribly special, but enough that he knew he was cut out for war. In the mid-1990s, Jon—at the behest and recommendation of his CO—got his Jump Wings and tried out for the Special Forces.
Passing selection and working his way through training, Jon was attached to the 5th Special Forces Group. Because his primary AOR was the Middle East, he learned to speak modern Arabic, Pashto, Farsi and Urdu. He would spend most of the late 1990s on loan to U.N. peacekeeping forces, teaching Africans in former conflict zones to disarm unexploded ordinance buried in old battlefields.
After the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001, Jon and the rest of the 5SFG were put on notice: There would be action, and it would be soon. Before the year was out, ODA 595 was flying across the Hindu Kush and setting world records, touching down in a dusty field in Afghanistan and connecting with local resistance forces.
By Christmas, the Green Berets had expelled the Taliban from the country. All was well with the world, aside from a particularly nasty blue-on-blue incident that claimed the lives of a few of Jon's closest friends. He would spend the remainder of the oughts in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq, typically in active combat zones, the worst of it during the Surge.
By 2010, Jon had decided that he was tired of war. He'd spent twenty years fighting, and it was time to put up the saddle—but the Army was all he'd ever known, and he had no plans to retire. Instead, he convinced his CO to let him attend OCS, become a REMF earn his Bachelor's of Nursing. He transitioned from 18D to 66T—thanks to his exemplary record and years of stalwart service, as well a chestful of tin—snagged a post at BAMC at Fort Sam.
It was a hell of a drive from San Antonio to Lubbock, but six hours (traffic notwithstanding) beat the 22 hour drive from Fort Bragg. He got up to see his family when he could, and otherwise spent his time working in the Emergency Room. Jon was bandying about the idea of taking the MCAT and going to Med School, if he could manage it, to become a proper doctor... when, abruptly, the whole world fell apart.
The chain of command came undone faster than he would have liked, and soon enough Jon found himself heading up a ragtag team of survivors on the outskirts of San Antonio, doing what they could to get by in the wake of unfathomable tragedy.
