He found that his anger was actually masking a deeper sense of empathy for others, something Saito brought out in him and cultivated. But after losing him, with the rest of his known life in the city, the anger returned, anger with himself. A singular goal taking over his entire existence, capture the person who he has been lead to believe was responsible for his "fathers" poisoning and bring him or her back to New York City. He has been told it was the Crow chieftain in Monroe County, he is tasked with finding out who that is on his own. Biography
Ryuji "Jack" Zekou was born in New York City in 2010, he didn't know much about his parents, only that they didn't want him. He was one of a very few Japanese American orphans to find themselves in the Sakura Orphanage, located on St Marks Place in the heart of little Tokyo the orphanage cattered to Japanese American families looking to adopt, giving the children their an opportunity to retain the culture and identity of their forefathers rather than being lost to the U.S. foster system. The first six years of his life were spent meeting with potential families, only to be rejected, not for lack of manners, but for the scar tissue that that littered the left side of his face. Incidentally it would save his life, when the outbreak occurred New York City was plunged into chaos. The NYPD was inundated with domestic violence calls, massive riots erupting from nowhere, they had to prioritize. In the end minority communities like Little Tokyo were left to fend for themselves. The orphanage was beside itself with worry, how they would defend the children and dedicated caregivers in the absolute anarchy was beyond them. It was then, during that time of incredible uncertainty that a community leader rose to the occasion. The financier of the Sakura Orphanage, Saito Sugahara returned to little Tokyo. Seeing the risk the children were in he rallied his men, the Yakuza, a criminal organization that long lived in the shadows, to take charge over the community. They first set about securing the orphanage their headquarters and seet of power. It was said that not a single orphan or caregiver was hurt since they took over. Barricading streets, and setting up regular patrols, their criminal connections gave them access to much needed weapons and ammunition. Little Tokyo had become one of the few successful enclaves in the whole city, and Zekou was fortunate enough to be in the heart of it, because he wasn't adopted. But the success didn't come without a cost, they were ruthless to outsiders that tried to share on their peace, to be more specific, non Japanese.
Always the black sheep Zekou found himself always getting in fights with his fellow orphans, it got so bad that, even in the chaos of the apocalypse he was brought before the boss with a request to have him kicked out of the settlement. His insubordination and lack of respect was a security thereat as far as they were concerned.
But the boss, Saito Sugahara, perhaps at the sight of his scar took pity on him and declared he would be sparred and instead, become his personal protege. He was trained in martial arts, and the backroom dealings of the legitimized criminal organization. He became a leader in their militia at a young age of 15. His abylity under pressure and as a leader was well known, he had become the pride of the boss and off the caretakers at the Sakura Orphanage. As he turned 17 he was taken in as the boss's surrogate son, from then on he was often along his side learning about his job and responsibilities first hand, more particularly what it took to keep order. By then New York City had changed since the days of total anarchy. The Yakuza, Triad, and Mob decided to join hands in an effort to restore humanity to New York City, one block at a time. By the time he turned 16 the plan was successful, lower Manhattan had become a prime example of how enguinity and careful use of city structures could allow for a thriving metropolis in a post outbreak America. Its location on the river made it a major trading hub, which made the gangs very rich. Their leadership, the heads of each respective gang became known and feared as the inner circle, or the trifecta. It didn't take long for upper Manhattan to organize into a thriving survival community as well, under the leadership of the remnants of the NYC government it was closest to the orginal city government, even their mayor Ron Giuliani was the great grandson of former New York mayor Rudi Giuliani. And like his great grandfather he bore a burning hatred for the mob, and all it's associates. Their strong armed tactics struck a stark contrast to the careful negotiator. They lived in a careful peace for many years. Though rumors were always circulating about backroom dealings between the competing communities Zekou never witnessed one. That was until the new year of 2029, there was to be an important meeting between the trifecta and upper Manhattan that would take place in their headquarters, time square, or as his father preferred to call it, the vipers pit. Years had passed since he was taken in and now he was an adult, one of his fathers lieutenants personally responsible for his security. It was his job to ensure that his carefully selected team ensured no man, dead or alive would lay a hand on him. And acording to the rules of the yakuza, or bushido they took it all deadly seriously.
It was during the meeting that everything went wrong. The meeting was to discuss a merger between the two communities, everyone present was sworn to an oath of secrecy. The meeting lasted several hours before finally recessing. His father, the boss wasn't going to accept, and if all three members of the inner circle didn't agree, it wouldn't happen. See his father was a proud man, and he wouldn't agree to work with, and rely on the same people that abandoned his community when it needed them, the government, the most.
It was during the recess that he heard word that his fiancee was sick with an illness. He immediately asked that he be relived of his duty so that he may return home, his father forbade it stating he had a duty to fulfill and that there were men for that. They had a heated argument and he ultimately abandoned his post, only when he got home it was to late what would have been a 20 minute commute before the colapse could take hours, and it did. She was bitten, and before he could see her she had already taken her life rather than having him see her sick. She left a note... He was devastated, but that wasn't the end to his suffering.
Not a day later while he was still mourning Yakuza footmen showed up to his residence with an order from the other three lieutenants, he was being summoned, it was clear he couldn't refuse. As soon as he made it to headquarters he found himself alone with the other lieutenants. His father had been killed, poisoned and the negotiation was halted. The other lieutenants would deliberate on who to elect, but first they brought out a board and a knife. For abandoning his post he had committed a terrible crime, so he had to cut off his pinky, but that wasn't the end to his punishment. They could not let it get out to the public that his assailant was in the wind. People might speculate that it was another boss, and that would tear the community apart, all their hard work the boss had built up would collapse, his legacy would collapse. So they tasked him with finding the person who had supplied the rare poison who they believed to be living in remote upstate newyork. He would be exiled until he could return with the person, alive. He had broken with his code by leaving his father, he blamed himself, so he fully accepted the weight of the task. He may have lost the two most important people to him, but he couldn't survive if all he had left, his honor was lost to him as well. Dishonored and without anything to lose, and everything to gain he swore he would not rest until that person was captured.
As he traveled north in search of this person, unbeknownst to him he had been doable crossed. The lieutenants were responsible for the poisoning, they tasked him with a task that would lead him far north, away from the city, so that they could pin the murder on him. His actions would be percieved as him fleeing the scene of the crime, enough evidence to convince the citizens that he was the assassin. Even his wifes infection was carefully planned. To top it all off the name he was given, was real, but the person wasn't remotely responsible. But they knew from the traders, that it would get him killed.
Zekou believed there was honor among thieves, on a fools errand he will soon pay a high price for his nievity. For the person he was sent to capture was none other than the crows chief, in the remote region of Monroe county.
Note: His last name means "Is Good, or Is Right" in kanji.
Would you like your character to start with any items?
Starting items: Katana (Mr. Sugahara's... If a Katana isn't available a similar weapon will do and I can rp it), Pipe Bomb (taken from Yakuza armory back in NYC, part of his plan... And BTW, I don't intend on using it against other players or irresponsibly, this is a RP server after all, I'd consider using it offensively as griefing so no need to worry about that).
Would you like your character to start with any skills?
Passive Fitness: Upper Mid (whatever would make sense for somone who is used to running and parkour in NYC during the apocalypse)
Strength: High (Gymn rat, apparently the apocalypse resulted in an excess of unused gyms, which he took full advantage off along with his "coworkers").
Abylity: Due to his training in martial arts and the normal mode of movement in infested NYC IE: Sneaking, parkour, running very fast to escape hordes, I think it'd be on the high end. But that seems to be a trend when it comes to these stats, so I'll leave it up to your discretion. I don't want to be cheap, so if you want to low ball it I'm totally fine with that.
BLADE:
5 accuracy (Instruction/experience since a young age)
5 guard (He'd have had plenty of instruction and experience against training partners and zombies)
5 maintenance (He'd know how to maintain his fathers sword)
Once again up to your discretion, I won't be upset if you lowball all this. Or decide to not include a few items.
