Despite how shitty and mean the world around her is, Alyssa has retained some sense of decency. She treats strangers as fairly as she can and goes out of her way to help people. Whether or not she has any particular hope for the future is difficult to say, but she does feel obligated to take care of the people around her for as long as she can. Some might describe her as maternalistic.
Character Motivations
Early in her medical training, Alyssa was taught to 'do no harm' and value human life. Though she's had trouble with the former, she does firmly believe the latter. To that end, she wants to help and protect others as best she can. Other than that... she's fond of the idea of settling down somewhere and starting a family—but she's not sure how realistic that hope is.
Physical Appearance
5'7" and 140 pounds, Alyssa is thin but wiry. She has enough raw muscle to move most of her patients around, though she's had to improvise with larger subjects. She has shoulder-length brown hair, which she usually keeps put up when she's working; light blue eyes; and adorable dimples that offset her weary face.

Biography
Alyssa was a junior in college when the world fell to pieces. She grew up in Boston and attended Boston University pre-med undergrad, but her studies were interrupted by... y'know, the apocalypse. The first few months were profoundly difficult, and by the end of the first year most of her family was dead. She stuck with a fairly large group of mostly decent survivors, and a man taught her how to shoot—which, as it turns out, she had a knack for! Her tutor, Jesse, grew up in the south, fully immersed in hunting culture. They had an on, off thing for several months, and then he died.
In 2018, Alyssa and what remained of her group found a decent-sized city built in the ruins of a pre-fab community with hydroelectric and solar power. They were welcomed into the town and, over time, made citizens. Alyssa worked both as a hunter, given her surprising talent with a long rifle, and as something like a nurse practitioner in the town's clinic.
Alyssa lived in Springfield for the better part of five years, where she honed her skills as both a sharpshooter and a medical professional. Folks started calling her "Doctor Burke" or just "Doc," and she took joy in her work. Unfortunately, as is often the case, the good times couldn't last. A large group of raiders set their sights on Springfield and after weeks of skirmishes, a final siege ended in Springfield's surrender. The raiders took people as slaves or killed them. Alyssa's skills kept her alive—but she was forced to travel with and work for the raiders for months before she found an opportunity to escape.
Her egress from the raider group was rather violent, involving an assassination followed by a lengthy engagement in a choke point with a long rifle and a lot of ammo. Once she'd routed the last of the raiders, Alyssa gathered what gear she could and fled in the opposite direction, towards the east coast.
She traveled for years, sticking with a few different groups and communities here and there, and now finds herself near Rochester, in a place called the Warrens, seeking somewhere fresh to settle down.
