May is a survivor.
She's a stoic and expresionless woman,only speaking when spoken to.She avoids eye contact as often as she can,and her anwsers are quick and to the point.It is extremely rare for May to appear out of the extremely complicated persona she created,Nika.
Nika can be whatever May needs her to be in order to improve her situation.One minute,she can be a shy,yet sweet person that sparks pity and kidness in others,the other she can be ruthlessly executing an unarmed survivor in order to get supplies.She always thinks before she speaks-Mostly about what to say in order to improve her standing with whoever she's engaged in a conversation to. Because of that, people who have known her for a long time can think of her as a hypocrite, or someone who is too weak to hold their own opinion.
However,three personality traits remain in every mask Nika puts on,no matter what.Greediness,selfishness and the fear of death.
Those masks she carefully puts on are not perfect, however.If one knows what to do, it is laughably easy to make cracks in them, revealing May's weak interior. Under stress and fear,those weak spots reveal themselves, able to be taken advantage of.
May is a broken husk of a woman-Her will to fight is lost,and any attempt at lying is easy to detect.
Nika however, if left with enough time and people to manipulate,can become almost anyone if she plays her cards right-A leader, a trusted friend, a murderer, a spy-It all depends on the choices she makes.
Character Motivations
Any motivations May once had have been broken when she joined the vultures. It all turned into an animalistic will to survive, like an injured animal backed up against a wall. She will lie, steal and kill to make her chances of survival slightly higher-After all, that is all she knows.
Physical Appearance
May is a slender woman in her mid-30's,slightly shorter than average at about 5"4, with a pale and sickly complexion. Her hair is jet black,unkept yet held in a tight bun on the back of her head. Her face is surprisingly clean,with a diamond shape, and less blemishes than the usual survivor. The lack of any bags under her eyes show that she didn't have to worry about losing sleep for quite a while now.Her eyes are an emerald green,surprisingly sad,and perhaps one of the only ways to know how she's truly feeling.
She is dressed in a white,tattered coat,with a blue, long sleeve t-shirt under it,along with dirty jeans and quite destroyed boots.
The woman has a lack of scars anywhere on her face,however her fingers and stomach are a different story. Lots of tiny cuts and scars obviously done by a knife, the evidence of her struggle for food and power in the arena.
May has one tattoo,specifically one on her back.It’s quite large,and it consists of the letter “V” in black ink,along with a skull of a bird right next to it. She is extremely ashamed of it,and will try to hide it as best as she can.

Biography
May wasn't born in the wealthiest family there was in New York, but it was certainly a loving one.
She was raised happily along with her 2 siblings.Her mother was a tailor, while her father was a truck driver-He was not around much,but he loved his family dearly. May certainly wasn't the most talented in school,but she had the passion and enthusiasm most lacked.
At the age of 15,her sister tragically got hit by a drunk driver while coming back from school, and died on the spot .May took it heavily, closing herself off in favour of continuing her studies as a chef,determined more than ever now to make her family and sister proud.
She was only 20 when the apocalypse hit, just beginning to study in the culinary school she applied to. She was seperated from her family, instead opting out to hold out in the school with other students and teachers.
It was dire.People were panicking,some of them didn't believe there even was a virus.Fights began to break out just after a month,and while May was trying to defend her friend stealing some extra meds for his wound,she was kicked out.
Quite literally.They didn't let her take her stuff,say goodbye,not even grab her fucking toothbrush.She banged on the door and cried and screamed for so long until her throat was sore,but it was no use. She was left to die by the people she thought she could trust.
She was left to to die, yet against all odds... She survived.
Somehow, eating rats and drinking rain water only to throw up and do it all over again,she ventured over to an abandoned park made into a makeshift town.
She ventured over to the Vultures.
They lured her in with kind hospitality, food, water, a shower, a kind community... May felt at peace. She felt useful as a cook, making small talk and eventually relationships with other members.
After 2 months, she became a member of the community.Of course,it came with a ritual.
May would have never expected it would be a knife fight to the death.
Confused and scared and cornered she slashed. She slashed wildly,and at the end of the fight she was bleeding as hard as the person she was battling. Yet she was alive, and they were not.
After that,she was filled in on what the Vultures were really about. They were raider-Organized, calculated raiders, raiders with mothers and children and a nursery and a school, yet raiders nontheless. From now on,she was an initiate, and she had to prove herself in order to get the things she once took for granted. Weakness was punished, emotion was punished, kidness was punished.
Her first 'mission' was to act as bait-An injured person on the road, begging any cars passing by for help(They made a deep cut on her stomach to make it more realistic). She had to watch as strangers stopped to help, only to get ambushed and shot and executed on the spot, in order to get more supplies for their community. It was horrible, disgusting, so wrong, yet she said nothing. Her face lacked any emotion as families were gunned down.
She was alive,and they were not.
Over time, she learned the rules. Fight for what's yours, no matter what. Survive, no matter what. Keep on a mask, no matter what. And so, during lunch she stabbed her friend to death in order to get her portion. She got promoted to a soldier that day.
The Vultures were not decently armed compared to most other communities. Their tactics were ambushes, manipulation and stealing. Nika was born during her first solo assignment.
It was a simple thing,really. a group of about 10 people took the old police station as their home,along with most of the weapons and ammo in the area. Her goal was to take out or cripple their leader,and steal at least some of their supplies. As for her alias,she got the name from a famous german singer,who she became aware existed only because one of the girls in her barrack liked to whistle some of her songs.
Nika's first mask was an experienced librarian that lost her husband during the first days of the apocalypse. She was wise, thoughtfull, yet liked to crack a joke every now and then. Obviously, she came there as a trader the first time, but after she helped in taking out a small zombie swarm that suddenly approached their location(She was given some noise bombs to help with the mission), she gained some trust. It took her a month to get close to their leader, and another one in order to talk to him in a secluded spot. He squirmed as she cut his throat, and she even got tossed against the wall, but she managed to get away with a bag of weapons and ammo.
The leaders were happy,and so it continued. With some groups she failed causing any more problems than a small fire,with some she sabotaged their entire food storage. But all the times she got back with some supplies in her hands.
That went on for 15 years. 15 years of Nika sabotaging small, kind communities. 15 years of knife-fighting for scraps of food. 15 years of supressing any emotions. May was hanging on by a thread. Nika was thriving.
Her last mission went as bad as you'd expect. Not only did she come back with nothing, she also revealed who she was with, and made the Vultures lose a trading partner. The leaders were furious. They gave her a small amount of supplies and an old car with a miniscule amount of fuel and told her to either come back with something good,or never come back.
May doesn't know what to do. She wants to leave, wants to stop this cycle, wants to find a place to hide for the rest of her days and stop hurting everyone she meets.
Nika,however... She wants to make the Vultures proud. And Monroe seems like a perfect place to look for some supplies,does it not?
