≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪
We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?
After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.
This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.
Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.
Biography
Dane Kingsley was born in Bristol, UK 1955. Dane was always fascinated with writing and literature, but his heritage was military and as such was made to join the British military by his father in the late 70' early 80's participating in the Falklands War. After his service he would go on to earn a bachelor's degree of English at Oxford. Within a few years he would become a renown author with three successful selling books on his experience in the British military and the Falklands War. He currently lives in the Liberty District with his wife where he is working on his memoir.

I get really in depth when I come up my characters even small one shot ones like this. Had to look up details about the Falkland War, degrees needed to become a author, etc. Helps me better visual the character and roleplay them the more fleshed out they are.
As this One-Shot has aspects of our new Stealth System in it, here is some additional information. If you would like to contest any of this, please let me know before the event tomorrow.

Documented Military Service: As part of the process of becoming a Coalition Citizen, all members were required to mention past military service. Dane's service has been well-documented, and his name has likely crossed the desks of many volunteer service programs over the years.
Renowned Author: Several of Dane's books can be found in the Coalition Public Library system. As such, his fame did not fade away with the apocalypse.
Distinct Accent: Hailing from Bristol, UK, Dane's accent is easily recognizable.
Character Quests: Dane is with his wife, and is responsible for her safety and well-being.
(You'll receive her as an NPC and be responsible for controlling her actions during the event.)
Hmm got to come up with an older sounding name. Too 100 women names from the 60's. Also never controlled a NPC before, so how does that work? As far has her own personal skills background etc?

You can draft a simplistic background if you want, two-to-three sentences. As for personal skills, just pick some that would fit her from the list we have available. Same way you did for your character.
No real starting items, but she can pick up some stuff as the event goes on.
You can make her as useful, or as useless as you want.
Kimberly Esther (Kingsley) was born 1958 in London England. She met Dane Kingsley at the Penguin Books publishing company she worked for in the 80's. She has since retired from publishing and lives with Dane in their home assisting him with his writing.
