≫ WHAT'S UP WITH GATEWAY ROLEPLAY? ≪

  • We've been radio silent for a long time now. We posted an announcement in our Discord server back in April of 2025, but never updated the forums. So what's up with Gateway Roleplay?

After 5 long years, we've decided to place the development of Ties That Bind on an indefinite hold.

This doesn't mean it's cancelled. We fully intend to run Ties That Bind: What Lies Beneath and Ties That Bind: City of Angels eventually. But to do so, we need to take a step back. In the meantime, we'll be working on smaller, invite-only projects.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this long! MindGate and I (Pika) have been working on this server for over a decade now. It truly is a passion project for us.

Character Name
Victor Machon

I Agree
Yes

Has this character appeared in a previous lore?
No

Age
17

Personality
Victor wears a big smile and makes everyone around him at work and school laugh, but he always goes home alone, and goes straight to sleep. He grew up catholic, but after years of hypocrisy and being judged by the church because his mother was an unwed teen mom he lost his faith. Victor is not formally religious, but his moral compass makes people think he is Christian or Catholic, but he always says he is, "non practicing, non judgmental Catholic."
Victor is skating by in his life, he's got a 3.5 without trying, is the center of attention, and his boss loves him. He doesn't understand why he can't find motivation to keep going, but he doesn't hate his life enough to try and kill himself again. His official diagnoses are depression, separation anxiety, and PTSD. His separation disorder and PTSD are borne out of loss, and his depression is caused by his low capacity for displaying and venting his emotions clearly
Victor believes that rape is worse than murder, he idolizes men like Stephen Marshall, who was a serial killer who targeted men on the sexual offenders registry. He's lived a long life for seventeen, he's stolen, fought, battled addiction, and self harm, so his mother sent him to live with his auntie, across the country. He doesn't know anyone, or have the motivation to seek out his old vices, so he's limited to sleeping, and working on schoolwork or going to work to pay for his car.

Physical Appearance
Victor is 6' even, which is abnormally tall for his stocky Filipino frame. He rarely wears sunscreen and spends his time outside during the summer so he looks more Mexican or Dominican than Asian. He wears a lot of black, but he isn't goth or emo, it just suits him better and makes him look thinner. Victor used to have a fit frame when he was running around with a gang, and it's plain to see he was once fit, but now he's about 220lbs, and is mildly insecure about it. He has jet black hair, cut short, in a messy, natural look. He has brown, almost black eyes, and has a big nose with a black head that he can't pop without his nose moving too much, and his forehead has a bunch of little zits.

Biography

Victor was born in early 2001, his mother was 17 when he was born, she was going to put him up for adoption, but changed her mind when she first saw him. His father was 18, and had enlisted into the United States Army before he had found out his girlfriend was pregnant. Between two deployments, he married Victors mother so he could receive a housing bonus in the army, but was then quickly sent back overseas, this time however, he saw combat. He did not re-enlist, because he couldn't take the fighting. By this time, Victor's family had taken in his cousin, who's parents had abandoned at their parents house, Victor's grandmother, to go run away together. This was his older sister. He was too young to know that it wasn't his sister, so they never told him. His father had become abusive towards his mother, and without her knowledge also to his sister.
He drank and spat on him, and touched his sister. His mother, unable to leave, and feeling trapped also began drinking. With his mother always available to him, he left Victor's sister alone. Years had gone by, he had thrown his father out, beaten him half to death with a crowbar while two of his friends held his sister and mother back and then ran out of the apartment. In retaliation, while Victor was in juvie, his father raped his sister, one day she'd had enough fought back and he ended up accidentally killing her. All while his mother was gone, to pick him up. He came home to see his sister, eyes rolled back in her head, neck bruised and twisted. She lied on the ground, naked and bleeding from her genitals, while his father lied on the couch in boxers with a bottle in one hand and the tv remote in the other.
At fourteen Victor almost beat his father to death with a crowbar. At age 16, he wished he had. He dashed at his father and grabbed him around the throat, his father was already drunk, and didn't recognize him so he bashed him with the bottle, Victor fell back and his father jumped on top of him. Part of Victor's rehabilitation was that he had learned Jiu Jitsu, to teach himself about goals, limitations, and discipline. His father was only on top of him for a second before it was all over for him. Victor flipped into full guard, pushed his advantage and flipped his father onto his back into a table. The glass table broke and slashed his fathers throat.
His mother blamed him for his father's abuse, and his death. Thankfully, the courts didn't, the evidence on his sister, and the many hospital visits for his mother and himself when he was young led the jury to rule it as self defense. Victor went unpunished for killing his father. The lack of support from the church, who knew the whole time, the lack of understanding the last time he stood before a judge, and his fathers years of abuse led to his death. Victor only blamed his father, he did not suffer the blood on his hands, Victor's PTSD is caused by the blood on his fathers hands, he suffers because he thinks if he'd been there twenty minutes sooner, or had killed him the first time, this wouldn't have happened.
Victor's mother couldn't even look at him anymore, her drinking and blaming him caused him to get involved in drugs and alcohol abuse. He wasn't selling drugs or involved in gangs anymore, like before, but now he was all alone. His auntie, who had been out of the country most of his life, had come to town to the funeral and had stayed with them in the following months. She saw how his mother felt, and tried to understand Victor's lack of guilt, and offered to take him in. She offered to the sister who'd raised her daughter, the opportunity to take the son she no longer loved.
Victor didn't hesitate, he left $500 cash on his moms bed, and took a suitcase full of clothes to the airport, where his aunt waited. Now he's sitting behind a cash register waiting for his shift to end, doing homework for his one and only class he's taking to graduate. No one here knows what he did, or that he's suffering in silence, so when someone comes into his store minutes before his shift ends, he smiles and waves at them.

Heya, Helmist! I've reviewed your application and it's accepted!

But, hey, just one quick thing:

  • In the future, make sure to include a warning at the top of your app if you're going to include graphic, potentially triggering content in your biography! Luckily, I was the one reviewing your application and not any of the other admins, but rape is a triggering topic for some--especially when it's the rape and murder of a child. Just something to keep in mind!

If you have any questions, feel free to respond and ask. Thanks!

sorry, I was writing it loosely off of my own life, and didn't know how much detail I was going to go into until I got to it.
