Personality
Stefan, now known only as "Job", is by all appearances a stoic man. He appears to be a patient man, someone made to endure all that life can throw at them. On the inside, there's a temper that burns brighter than a thousand suns. Persistent ego and sense of entitlement that he deserves something for all that he's lost. Though, it's constantly kept in check by his humility, which works to keep him on the right path. "Job" is an altruistic person who truly wishes to help people, and does this by helping to create, build, and maintain the settlement of Monroe.
Character Motivations
"Job" has lost everything in his life. His wife, an unborn child, the hope he placed into Brighton, and the only direction he had in life. Now, Monroe represents his chance to start a new. To get back twice what he's lost. He strives to make Monroe everything Brighton was meant to be. At his core, Stefan truly wishes to help others.
Physical Appearance
Stefan is a hardy man. Standing at 5'11'' and weighing just over 200 pounds, he's an imposing sight. Long locks of silver hair drape down to his shoulders, and an extravagant beard covers his face. His pale blue eyes soften a rather tough exterior. He has a well defined and muscled frame, displaying the epitome of a working man's body. His hands are rough, calloused, burn marks dot around his fingertips and palms. His body is similarly marked, with more burns across his forearms, legs, and feet. Each patch of scarred skin left bald, holes in his otherwise thick and bushy body hair.

Biography
Stefan Schmidt, born to a German-American family on November 6th, 1975, has had his life plotted out for him since before his very birth. His family has been in Monroe County, New York for 9 generations. His Great (x8) Grandfather immigrated from Germany to Brighton, Monroe County, New York. Taking his smithing business from the Homeland to here. From there, it was passed down to each son in the Schmidt family. They even helped by taking gunsmithing contracts for the 140th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment that based out of Brighton during the Civil War. This very act is what started the Schmidt Smithing Co. in Brighton, Monroe County, New York. Stefan's life was to live, work, and die in Brighton. It was the same for his fathers, and his son after him.
Once high school ended, that was it in terms of formal schooling for Stefan. His father, Klaus, took on his only son as his apprentice. Stefan was instructed in a wide range of different types of smithing, his family business worked in all different areas across Monroe County. As such, Stefan had to be flexible and able to work on any project that was asked of them. The business, relying on contracts from larger companies to survive. As such, the work they received was often varied. From larger, infrastructure focused tasks that took them outside their own workshop, to smaller detail oriented pieces, even to custom manufacturing with pieces such as decorative weaponry.
Stefan took to the practice, took to the business, took to what he was presented with, and did as all those before him did. In his mid-twenties he found a woman, married her, and the two purchased a home in Brighton. Things were as they should've been. Life continued on, and Stefan continued to master his craft. The world was rocked by the Red Eye infection, and unfortunately, Stefan's father was one of the first to succumb.
For the first time, the Schmidt's were pushed from their home to take refuge in the Rochester Quarantine Site. Taking shelter in the protected City Hall Historic District and Corn Hill of the Rochester Area, the rest of the city was up in flames and smoke. Terrorized by roaming gangs of protesters, the area was a hot-bed for conflict and instability. As all Quarantine Zones did, it fell shortly after it began. Lasting only weeks, before it was beset by both the dead and living. Those that escaped it's downfall did so by the water or by the bridges and roads. However one did, it left the large portion of survivors lost and aimless.
Stefan and his wife resided with a group of what were practically strangers. All of which were lost and confused on where to turn. Stefan offered for them to return to his home, and to his shop. Where they could go about fortifying a place to call their own, outside the inner city. Stefan, still dreaming of a day to return to normalcy, set about a temporary home by his workshop in Cobbs Hill, Brighton.
Unlike many communities that sprouted up from the Rochester Quarantine, this one had infrastructure development at it's forefront. Located by Washington Grove and the Cobbs Hill Reservoir, basic needs for expansion were being met. Neighborhoods were sectioned off, secured by walls of metal, chain link fences, all supplied by Stefan. As it's safety grew, so did the community. As time went on, and months turned to a year, hope that the world Stefan knew would one day return diminished. Then, the community began to look into more long term solutions.
Four of the original settlers of Cobbs Hill took the lead in Brighton's future. Stefan, being one of them. Overcome with ideals, hope, expectations of a place for all and a home for the homeless, Stefan worked tirelessly to create this place. Where he worked to expand their territory, branching from Cobbs Hill all the way down to the hub of Brighton, the Twelve Corners. The other founders specialized in trade, diplomacy, and warfare. Stefan continued their expansion. Securing street after street, neighborhood after neighborhood. A year, turned to years. Stefan led a community of people, a team of his own to determine the future of Brighton. The community was thriving, accepting others, finding healthy trade in Monroe County with other communities that were on the rise. It's location was perfect for trade from the scavengers of who delved into the ruins of Rochester, or those travelling from the North to the soon to be CPF in the South. With all this trade, Brighton found wealth. It fortified it's walls, it armed it's militia with the best gear, it made relations to it's neighbors and bribed those unwilling. Inviting them to come, trade, spend, work. But not to stay.
Brighton took a shift in it's 7th year. No longer was it accepting all those that came to it's door, instead it had the ability to choose who came through it's doors. It wasn't a community, anymore. It was a business. Brighton had gone where it found success, and it took in all those that were skilled. All those that could bring them more wealth. It forgone expansion, focusing instead it worked on solidifying it's presence as an economic powerhouse. Stefan argued, pleaded, and even begged the others to reconsider their stance. Though, they stood in agreement. Brighton became the Ivory Tower of Monroe County. It's streets once lively with the bustle of people, now were replaced by caravans. No longer were there children playing in it's streets, people conversing with one another in the streets, now it was nothing but haggling. Nothing but business.
Even so, Stefan stayed. He went from focusing on expansion, to industry. He had ample funds and materials to work with, even kicking off the first working foundry inside of Brighton. A well regarded secret in the community, with such a thing they could begin production instead of solely trading found and distributed items. Though, through it all Stefan felt empty. Felt wrong. The world needed something like this, but the Founders became increasingly reclusive. Hiding their achievements from the world, keeping paradise to themselves. There were physical threats, physical actions against those that wished to speak about Brighton's achievements. Stefan knew of it all. When his wife informed him that she was pregnant, Stefan was at his breaking point.
After his 8th year in Brighton, Stefan decided he had to flee. Despite the comfortable life he'd made himself, he felt as though the walls of his fortress were closing in on him. He feared his own creation. Despised it, despised what it had become. Remembering all that he wanted it to be, everyday he saw his own failures in its streets, its walls, its roads. When he told his wife of his feelings and plotting, she agreed to flee with him. To somewhere else, to Pittsford, to anywhere but the suffocating coffin they were living in. Stefan made arrangements to be smuggled out of Brighton in a caravan that was outbound to Pittsford. The two made it to the outskirts of CPF controlled territory. Stefan reveled in their success, hoping for brighter things. Hoping to make his dream become a reality.
Stefan failed to realize the repercussions of his actions. Even under the alias of 'Marcus', he could not hide who he was. They hadn't made it a week before Brighton's lackeys were sniffing around, searching for him. He changed names, stopped working, hopped from CPF town to CPF town. It wasn't enough. They came for him. They took his wife. Nearly took him too, if it wasn't for CPF's Rangers saving him. It was then that Stefan realized, that there was no safety in the CPF. That from now until forever there'd be a target on his back. That because of his actions, his wife was now in Brighton's custody. The CPF were too close in relation to Brighton, too much information passing to and fro for him to live comfortably. As such, he threw himself into the Barrens. The Frontier, close enough that he may one day find his wife, but far enough to avoid unwanted attention. For a time, he gave up on his dream. Questioned if it was even obtainable, if it was selfish for him to strive for it, and if a place like that could ever exist. He saw the corruption in the CPF, he saw the isolation of Brighton, what else could there be?
Spending months alone, a call went out on the radio by one Julian Carmichael-Ortiz. The establishment of a new community. Made of oddballs, outcasts, and the discarded. A home for all, where they may be protected, and have a chance at a new life. This radio broadcast reignited something within Stefan, his hope. The hope that, maybe his dream is still possible, that maybe that this was his chance to make the community he wanted, to fix the mistakes he made with Brighton. He took that call from Julian, and became a core of the town. Taking on the alias "Job", Stefan made a new life here. He constructed it's outer fences, it's metal walls inside and outside the town. He was the leader of expansion and infrastructure once more, and works as a metalworker and metalsmith within the town.
For the past 3 years he's helped shore up it's defenses, make weaponry, construct anything needed for the town. Pushing his dream of a home for all to rest their heads, to be protected, a place where children can be raised. He often fantasizes that one day his wife will return, and the two can raise their child in the place he has built. Until then, there is much work that must be done. This fledgling town's future is uncertain, and "Job" will be there every step of the way to ensure he doesn't repeat his past mistakes.
